Can a 1-yr dog be crate trained. And is there free electronic training available? My husband gave me a 1 yr old Shitzu for V-Day. The first week he was perfect! No piddles or poop. This week he is chewing, pooping, and peeing when I am away at work. My co-workers have suggested I crate train him. Is it too late? He is 1 yr old and I've already had him for 10 days. I don't have a lot of money is there training available online.
what are good ways to get your dad to let you get another dog? I have one dog and I teach him tricks all the time and he listens to me when I tell him to stop barking and stuff. I train him all the time and he is getting better at stuff. I play with him all the time and the only thing my dad has to do is feed him because the smell of dog food makes me sick! Also my mom is fine with it, I found a dog for FREE online but he still won't let me get a dog! So does anyone know of a really good way to convince their parent to let them have a dog?

Dog training help!? Does anyone know a site that as a free online obedience class?!?!? If you do could you please tell me! Thank-You
Why do people expect a free dog? My husband and I have been adopted by a stray puppy. We didn't want to send her straight to the shelter, since there is a big chance she would be put down. (as most of you know, the shelters are extremely full) So we have taken her in, gotten her shots, and we are training her. We are only asking for a reimbursement for her shots (which was about $30.) And that isn't even how much the total vet visit was! We posted her online and put up pics, and several people have asked about her. When we tell them that "Yes, there is an adoption/rehoming fee, but it is only $30," they then come up with some excuse as to why they can't pay that ("We live really far, we'll spend that much on gas just to get her" "I thought she was free...") If they don't want to pay a measley $30, then why would I think they would take the initiative to take her to the vet themselves, which will be more than that cost? Why do people expect a dog that is fully vetted, fixed, potty trained, obedience trained, etc... for FREE??? What is wrong with people? (Sorry, I am done venting!) Physiscist- No, I am not advertising her for free. I have plainly stated on my ad that there is a small, reasonable adoption fee... and people still email and think that I will just give her away, or that they can negotiate. LOL @ Jen! Amen to that. I hope we find her a home too! She's a cutie-pie. We would keep her ourselves, but we want to start up fostering again sometime soon, and we can't do that if we have 3 dogs.
How to train your dog? Is there a website where it teaches you a everyday lesson onb how to train your dog. Its kinda like attending a obedience dog class, but online for free. thnx

My mom won't let me get a dog? Okay so I really really want a dog I love dogs soooo much when we go over to peoples houses and they have a dog i spend almost the whole time playing with them. I even love researching breeds, training, tips, and caring for dogs online in my free time. I have this Legacy Of The Dog breed book and I love looking through it and reading about the dogs plus walks are really fun to me and my friend has a puppy that she has to take care of all on her own cuz she wanted the dog and she is fine with it and really responsible about it i feel i can be do. but i think it is because we used to have a Jack Russel Terrier named Jackie(lol) and she was crazy, untrained, a stray, pooped everywhere, bit you, and scratched and chased you, but not all dogs are like that cuz my mom for some reason doesnt understand that. ugh i already went on convincing parents to get you a dog thing but thats not the problem the problem is that she doesnt like dogs cuz of Jackie i need help on how to help her like dogs again(she used to) and that all dogs arent like Jackie??? i think she would love a great family pet. :-(
Has anyone tried leash-free training collars to correct unwanted chasing? I live in the country and have a highly active 10-month old cattle dog/german shepherd mix. She's a great dog in every way except of course naturally she thinks cows and horses are for chasing. I would like for her to be able to run around the property and get some exercise with the other dogs but I need to be able to trust her around the livestock first and I've tried using a long line to train her but she knows when she is and isn't attatched to a leash (good on leash, does what she wants off-leash). When she goes into prey drive of course she does not listen to commands and treats and toys are nowhere near as interesting as a moving horse or cow. SO, I recently came across collars online that are not shock collars, but similar. Instead of a shock they use sound or vibration. I need something powerful enough to snap her out of prey drive but would like to avoid a shock collar if possible. Just looking at options, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
is this the dog i should get? Okay i was wondering if a border collie would be a good dog for me to get? alright i live in a very rural area of southern indiana in the foot hills on 250 acres. I have 2 italian greyhounds and a golden retriever mix. My mom works at home so there would be some one there most of the time. we have 3 large lakes on my property. also if you know me you will know that before i get a dog i always do at least 5 months of research in both books and online! also i have more dog training and trick books than any child or adult i know! i have ducks that the border collie can herd as long as it doesn't hurt them. I do not live by any roads and do not have any neighbors so the dog would be able to run free without being restrained as do my other 3 dogs. i feed high quality origen dog food. I am willing to take this dog to the vet and dog classes( i have taken all of my previous dogs to dog classes). i have lots of time to spend with him besides when i go to school but then while i am gone my mom can play with him. keep in mind that although i am a kid i am highly intelligent and have had hands on dog training classes and used to have a border collie Shepherd mix but i had to get rid of her because when i got her we had to move unexpectedly and git rid of her and then i lived in the city and now i know that is not the place for a bc. i will play with her a lot and take it for walks around my property. also this dog will not be pent up in a crate all day like most dogs, this dog will be outdoors with my other dogs most of the day but she will be allowed inside whenever she wants and will be allowed to get fresh food and water. but she will be let in at night to keep her away from the wolves and cougars . also i promise that i will get this dog from a good breeder and not a pet store or a backyard breeder because i am strongly against that! i need to get a dog that is friendly to both people and dogs and that will be very playful and willing to learn! and i would love to have a dog that will actually catch the frisbees and balls and doesn't just retrieve them haha!!!thank you and please give me your advice and thinking because i value your opinion.
i feel ashamed to be a dog owner ):? my dog is wonderful its just that she only knows Sit, Down, and High five! i cant get training classes because i dont have a ride or the $70 per week ): i bought cesars way but im continuing to read it and the dog father video but i lost the command collar! now my dog cant do anything all she has is her regular collar and tommorow i need to buy her a new one since she has bitten all of her other ones. right now shes sleeping i have watched that training video over winter break instead of relaxing and i have been training her! i feel like crying because if i cant teach her to be off leash then she will never be free! the dog father said she needs to learn to be off leash or else when i go traveling like to the beach and she sees all those dogs just running free because THEIR owners trained them im going to be sitting there seeing her whining wanting to play i dont trust her because the beach has some fencing but not a lot there are some parts that are not fenced and im worried if i get her off leash shes going to leave the beach! and i will never see her again and thats the last thing i would want i am crying i feel like i ruined my dogs freedome shes only 10 months old i would like to train her from home please please please! someone give me an answer for training off leash and she has problems with barking at dogs too and please dont tell me use treats because i tried that at the vetrinarians office and she would rather bark at the dogs then eat a treat and i dont want to abuse her like all the other owners also online can you find a cheap dog whistle that actually works! once i bought one and it wasnt a silent dog whistle like it said it was a whistle i could here to which made the house go nuts please help me
Owning a dog while in college: Can you make it work? I am currently a sophomore in school and I wanted to get a puppy either in spring or summer of 2011 (end of junior year). I have owned several dogs before which all live at home with my parents so I know all about chewing, exercise requirements, training, vet bills, food costs, and everything else that goes into owning a dog. I am also thinking of starting my own online natural pet store this summer because I know a lot about dog nutrition and believe strongly in holistic foods, that way when when i graduate I can open an actual store. No matter what my career will involve animals... I go to college in a small city and am getting an apartment next fall about 15 mins away in a duplex that allows pets with a decent sized yard. I love to exercise and will easily be able to have my dog join me on my daily runs. Since I am half way done with school I have taken most of my harder classes in order to make junior and senior year quite a bit easier. I will probably end up only having classes on tuesday and thursdays and the other days free. I'm trying to get a job at one of the doggie day cares near me (which shouldn't be too hard because I have great references from a dog training facility that I interned this past summer) so that when my dog is old enough he gets to attend for free. Plus it would be a fun job to get to spend my days playing with lots of dogs. Cost wise my parents are paying for school including most of my living expenses so most of the money I make can easily go towards my dog which I figured would be about $1000-$2000 per year in expenses. Anyone have any experiences they can share about having a dog in college? or any opinions? It would be next spring or summer when I would only have three classes for the entire semester so very easy and i will have lots of free time for housebreaking and training of a puppy. Also... I'm not much for partying, I've been there done that and it's gotten pretty old
IM buying a dog online and to me it sounds like a scam, any help? This is what he said to me. Hello, nice reading from you regarding this our adorable puppy. She is available and waiting for a family that will adopt her and provide her a loving, caring and forever home. She is 12 weeks old, , healthy,AKC registered, and current on all her medical check-ups. Health records are available and she has a two years genetic health guarantee. She is microchiped and dewormed. She has also been both house and potty trained. She is very friendly, plays around with kids and other domestic animals. She has a very good temperament. Bred and brought up in a clean environment (family house), so she tends to meet many people. She will be the perfect addition to your family. You will love her if you make her part of your family. I am giving her for free adoption to an approved home ONLY!You will take care just for the transportation and the transfer of ownership papers in your names which is $300 and as soon as i get the money,i will book her a flight to your location. Delivery will be done to your closest airport with playing toys,a crate and all paper works. I just relocated and unfortunately for me, the new apartment I moved into, does not accept pets. So i have to give her out to any good home. I have a recident permit in Los Angeles CA but i just relocated in Lakes Island Cameroon for studies, where I am presently with her. That is why you are going to pay just her transport fair for her to be transported over to you. But before we proceed,I would love to know a little more about you and your family. So if you can just let me know with the answers to the questions below, i will be grateful. How soon do you need a puppy? Are you morally and financially prepared for a puppy? Who will look after the puppy when you are not around? Do you have kids and other pets to play around with her? Do you have a vet around you?Where she will be checked constantly? Where are you located and any contact number please? I hope you get me these answers sincerely and please feel free to ask any questions about her. Some photos are attached. Hope to read from you soonest. (Then the last thing he said) He told me that the airport was going to call me and confirm that the dog is going to be shipped after i payed the guy, well someone called Unkown and was talking stuff i couldnt even under stand this is what he said to that. I dont know what happened that you did not understand what he said.I instructed them not to deliver her untill you pay me the $300.So if you are ready to pay already, then mail me back for my details. After you confirm you have paid,i will inform them to do the delivery. Thanks. then i didnt reply and he sent this. Hello, you coould pay the money via Western Union to the address below: NAMES..............................YONKEH HENRY CITY.................................. AKWA STATE ..............................DOUALA ZIP CODE...........................237 COUNTRY...........................CAMEROON AMOUNT.............................$300 You will be asked a test question and answer and so you will use TEST QUESTION...................WHOSE TEST ANSWER.....................MINE When you are through wih the payment, mail me the money transfer control number that is the MTCN so i could pick up the money. As soon as i pick it up,i will get the airport informed and she will be delivered to you. Thanks.
Should I take a job as a dog trainer at Petco? Or keep my Union job? I was bored one day and filled out the online application, after one of the stores trainers recommended I do while I was toy shopping one day. Two days later I've got an interview. I have a good job now, some would say really good, I know I was lucky to get it. Railroad job..its union w/ full benefits & a pension & I make about 25$/hr with lots over over & even double time. But I HATE...HHHAAATTTEE my job. The only thing that gets me through the days is I look forward to coming home and playing w/ my pup & I've become the local 'dog' guy. Every weekend I help 1-2 people with training their dogs & I have a backyard agility course me and a few people (I've trained) run our dogs through...and it seems like working with dogs for a living would be the best thing ever. Heck, I do it for fun & free on my weekends. Now I realize Petco isn't the gold standard of dog training, but I figured its a good place to get my feet wet and get some experience on a professional level. I'd taken my pup there for puppy classes because it was cheap and I just wanted to practice w/ distractions ... I've taught dogs agility and dealt with behavioral problems...I didn't need someone to show me 'sit', but it was good socialization in a learning setting I thought. Anywho, I befriended the girl teaching & am all but guaranteed the job if I want it. Does anyone know what they make? Is it based on commission in anyway for selling training lessons? Someone said you might have to work on the floor or register too, is that true? The girl I know also works in the grooming department washing dogs (she's not trained to cut dogs hair), & that seems the ultimate to me, but is that normal? Does anyone know a better way to break into the dog training world? People who I've helped for free tell me I should have charged (...though they weren't offering $$) & some have suggested I just make a web page or hang fliers...but I don't know if I'd feel right acting like I knew it all...I figured a year or two at Petco and at least I'd have someone to fall back on (the other trainers there) for the beginning of this...its easy to tell someone you can't help when they aren't paying you anyways. Anyone worked there....taken classes there from a new trainer...quit a good job because you thought you'd be happier at another one??
Would it be "hard" or have any "effect" on a dog if it is given away...? I couldn't find the best words for my question! I've been wanting to get a puppy for a while now, I've never had a dog before but I've gone through all other pets (My parents thought that by giving me another pet I'd lose interest in wanting a puppy). I've had fish, turtles, bunnies, a cat, birds...etc..... I no longer have a pet and I still want a dog, and since we're living somewhere "better" now my parents have also agreed, I'm 18 and since I live with them I wanted to make sure they were okay with this. I went to a breeder and unfortunately the prices were too high (I was already expecting this though), I want a Shih Tzu... I was searching online and I found an ad by someone who lives in my city, the dog is 1 year old, the lady has told me the dog is trained, has his shots, and isn't neutered, apparently she's willing to give us the dog for free. I still don't know her reasons for giving the dog up, but regardless whether I take it or not, would this be a bad idea? I haven't had a dog so this is why I am asking, even though the dog is playful, healthy (seems to be), trained, etc. would there be any inconviniences since it comes from another home? I'm figuring it'll be hard for him to get used to a new surrounding, new people, etc. I guess my question is if I receive a dog that from someone who previously owned him could there be any trouble, would he steal follow my commands, is there a stage in which it may be hard at first for the dog to get used to us, or am I completely wrong, ? I figured my parents wouldn't be willing to pay the $950 from the breeder, specially since we also have in mind everything else he will need, but meanwhile if I find someone like this who because of personal situations is giving the dog away, what should I keep in mind when it comes to taking the dog home? STILL follow* (spell check) I guess it's more of a curiosity, even if I don't take the dog, I am wondering if dogs go through difficulty when given away to a new home?
How to convince my parents to let me get a dog im 29!? Yeah im 29 and live at home with my parents my next door neighbor's dog had puppies about 2 months ago. She cant find anyone to give the last puppy to and i have wanted a dog for a long time! One problem my parents wont let me have one. My dad said he would get one if you didn't have to keep it in a fence. We live in the boon docks. I don't work so i have plenty of time with it. Plus i get two checks a month i have the money to own a dog. I have read numerous dog books and stuff online im responsible of training that puppy. I want to spend my paycheck on the dog supplies the puppy is free. Mom doesn't like dogs to lick her but it wont lick her if i train it not to. I have experience with dogs I watch my brothers when they go on vacation and my parents don't mind that. I sound like a bratty 12 year old but im a grown women they should let me have a pet im home by myself until 7 every night i need company! Oh i forgot the huge detail i guess everybody has to know im my boyfriend and i are working on buying a house!!!

How can I convince my parents into letting me get a dog? First off, I just want to thank anyone who gives an answer for this question. Your help is greatly appreciated. My close friend's aunt has a dachshund (weiner dog) puppy that she would like to find a good home for. She would love to keep him, but she has 4 other dachshunds already, and she says she already has too many dogs as it is, but she will keep him if she cannot find him a home. This puppy is from one of her dog's litters, a family down the street bought him, but the parents there, currently are having some money issues, and asked her if she could take him back, because they could not afford to take care of him any longer. He is 4 months old, has had all of his shots, is half way house broken, gets along with other animals and people. He is also very cute. I have a job, I have money saved up for current expenses, I have a cage for crate training. I'm basically a homebody (lol), so I will be bale to take care of him 24/7. The puppy's current owner does not want to sell him, she said she will give free, if it is to a good home. She wants to see where he will be living and whatnot, and make sure he will not be sold or anything. I am 17 by the way, I do plan to go to college, but here, you do not have to live on campus to go to college, so I was planning at living at home for a while till I got some more money earned and got out of college. We have a Chihuahua at the moment. My dad has been looking at dogs online to have in the house, and my mom always talks about getting a playmate for the chihuahua. But when I told them about it, they just say "NO! We are not getting another dog." or "You do not need a dog." or "We don't need another dog." But then they talk about getting a dog. Weird, I know. But, the major question is....how do I convince my parents that I can have him? Again, thakn you to anyone who answers. :) They do not expect me to take the Chi. The chi is my mom's dog. When I am out fo college, I plan to take the dachshund with me. My parents actually do like that breed by the way, my sister has one and they love it. I think they are just agaisnt having a puppy. I don't know.. Thanks you for answers :)
Questions regarding Crating your dog? I am going to be getting a Welsh Terrier in July and everyone I have spoken with and everything I have read has recommended crating. I have never crated before and neither has my boyfriend so i am very foreign to the idea. I was hoping someone would be able to answer some questions I was not able to find online. 1 - Some books/websites I have looked at said to have the dog eat in the crate while other said to just use treats and toys to get the puppy used to the crate. Which one would be more effective? 2- If we do have the puppy eating in the crate would this be a re-occurring thing or could we eventually move the meals out of the crate 3- We are pretty much using the crate as a form of potty-training and to ensure the safety of the dog when we are not around, however we would like to eventually have the dog roam free. Is crating going to be a life long thing for the dog? and if not how long would it take approx. for the dog to no longer need to be crated?

Do u like dog stories? do u hav one 2 share? ? plz tell - here's one i saw online this morn BY mike ensley; Most people, when they get a dog, are thinking mostly about the two months of puppy they want to enjoy rather than the 10 years of dog they don't plan on preparing for. When they come to those long adult years, they find themselves with an undisciplined, full-grown creature that has outgrown its charm and they don't know what to do with it. When I was a kid, my parents hired a professional trainer to help them domesticate Lucy, the German Shepherd my sister had picked out to be our family dog. My dad took us along to Lucy's obedience classes so we could observe the process and be able to train dogs ourselves from then on. That's what I did with Chloe almost a decade later. But even when you know what to do and why it's important, it still isn't easy to sternly rebuke a little ball of fuzz when she's done something naughty but still so darn cute. Or to deny her the pleasure of people food when she's got the original Puppy-Dog eyes trained on you. I think the worst was listening to the simultaneously adorable and pathetic whimpers coming from her kennel in the morning. But all of these things were measures that prevented numerous challenges and hardships later on. The benefit of all this has made an immeasurable difference in my relationship with Chloe. She was potty-trained at 10 weeks old, which was awesome. Today I can leave to run errands, hit the gym or whatever, and know that she will not chew anything she isn't supposed to or bark incessantly and bother the neighbors. And best of all for her, I can take her off-leash in the park and watch her bound joyfully after the tennis ball again and again, unafraid that she will run off anywhere or do anything to get either of us in trouble. It hit me the other morning, as Chloe was fetching freely and the angry Beagle was yipping at her whenever she passed his window, that this iswhat God wants for me — this is why He's looked after and disciplined me the way He has. You see, Chloe doesn't use her freedom to do the things the undisciplined dogs do. No doubt, given a leash-less opportunity most of them would wreak as much havoc as their size allowed. I wonder if, as they are watching her they aren't thinking, "Why don't you ditch that guy!? Go get that mail lady! Bite her good! Wait! Why are you going back? He's going to put the leash on you! What a sucker!" Her obedience must not look like freedom at all to them. Then again, she's the one enjoying a romp in the open air while they press their wet noses to the window. Likewise, the world looks at some of the costs involved with our pursuit of Christ and thinks we're crazy. They mock those who opt for purity in the face of internal conflict and external pressure. I know as I have struggled to leave behind my own self-indulgences, and even the homosexual tendencies that come so naturally to me, people (many of whom have never met me, mind you) will describe my life as loveless, pointless, hopeless. Christians throughout history have received similar (and worse) criticisms from an incredulous and unbelieving world, who ironically are ensconced in the ever-tightening tendrils of sin they are convinced is the best they have to hope for. The free spirits, open relationships and progressive minds of our culture lead people into a bondage that only tastes good when you're ignorant about what is good. Even if there were none of the "practical" consequences to sin that we seem to focus on the most (STIs, abortion, alimony), the soul-killing power of sin would still be there. The "disease of self" — as dc Talk once put it — is what I'm talking about. It's not just the way we steal and hurt others, but the self-focused ways we love and give and do things we think are good. It doesn't take long for that self-living to trap you inside yourself, preventing any real connection to God or others. It's an amazing grace that God interrupts our slow descent with discipline. And you know, contrary to what a lot of preachers and authors will tell you, He doesn't even look down on us for it. Rescue Just the other day I rescued a little Yorkie wandering around the apartment complex late at night. Yorkshire Terriers are adorable and very valuable little dogs, yet this one's owner had not even bothered to affix a mark of ownership. No collar, no tag; just a helpless little dog wandering alone in gator country. I found out later that "Missy" escaped her home because of a door left open. She had only been "free" for a short while, but it didn't take her long to get caked in poop and acquire a nasty scratch on her back. She kind of reminded me of me, in that way. I can't think of a time I threw off the oppressive fetters of my faith to do what I wanted that I did not end up wounded and dirtied in some way. As I gave the Yorkie a bath, at times fighting my gag reflex as chunks of filth came off, I kept seeing that adorable little face looking up at me, the cute ca
Border Collie Advice!? Okay i was wondering if a border collie would be a good dog for me to get? alright i live in a very rural area of southern indiana in the foot hills on a 250 acre farm with chickens and ducks but no livestock. I do not live by any roads and do not have any neighbors so the dog would be able to run free without being restrained as do my other 3 dogs. i feed high quality origen dog food. I am willing to take this dog to the vet and dog classes( i have taken all of my previous dogs to dog classes). i know that this may sound bad and by no means i love my golden mix but i have found that even though she is smart she just isn't the kind of dog that is as high energy and as ready to learn as i would like that is why i want the kind of dog that is really food motivated and ready to learn and play whenever i am! when i am home i have lots of time to spend with him besides when i go to school but then while i am gone he can stay outside and run and play with my other dogs. keep in mind that although i am a kid i am highly intelligent and have had hands on dog training classes (i used to have a border collie Shepherd mix but i had to get rid of her because when i got her we had to move unexpectedly and get rid of her and then i lived in the city and now i know that is not the place for a BC.) also i will take her to sheep herding about once a week but im not sure where i can go around my area because like i said i live in a very rural area and i'm not sure where to take her although because i live in a rural farming community there is a lot of livestock such as cows, sheep, horses, and goats so if you can try and find a place where i can take her near spencer, indiana or near bloomington indiana that would be great ! i will play with her a lot and take it for walks around my property and groom her regually. also this dog will not be pent up in a crate all day like most dogs, this dog will be outdoors running free (with no leash or small fenced in area) with my other dogs most of the day but she will be allowed inside whenever she wants and will be allowed to get fresh food and water. but she will be let in at night to keep her away from the wolves and cougars . another thing is that this dog will have a lot of human interaction and will not be expected to just entertain itself outside for it will have other dogs to play with ( my iggy's love to run) and of course when i have the time i will play with her! also i promise that this dog will come from a good breeder or rescue and not a pet store or a backyard breeder because i am strongly against that! i need to get a dog that is friendly to both people and dogs and that will be very playful and willing to learn because i would eventually love to get him involved in agility and frisbee compititions if he gets to that level (i would love to have a dog that will actually catch the frisbees and balls and doesn't just retrieve them haha ; hints my golden mix)!!! thank you and please give me your advice and true opinion and some advice about your collie! thank you and i value your opinion also if you happen to have a BC please give me your email address so that i can ask you some more questions in detail!

how do I convince my parents to get a dog? I know I am responsible enough, I have studied on every breed like by spending hours reading online about them as well as going to the library and checking out a book about every breed. I read all of the books, about 2000 pages. I do a lot of chores, I: take care of two cats maintain an aquarium do most of the cleaning around the house water the plants do my own laundry I do this all at about 5 am. I also take a walk (1-2 miles) every morning or right after school. I have some free time and I think a dog would be an excellent edition to my life. I would just love one! my older brother had a dog when he was younger and he loved it. And I had a dog when I was about 2 or 3, however I think it's unfair because I never really got to see what having one was like and I was to young to take advantage of having a dog and play with him and teach him tricks. The only memories of him I have was when I use to walk with him on a leash in the yard. He was a french bulldog. my parents don't like the idea because: -dogs cost money- I cant get a job because i'm too young so I will pay for it with allowance. This ends up being them paying for it, but I would still spend that money anyways, probably on junk that I don't need . Why not on a great companion? -it would scratch furniture- I would train him not to, boast him - it would need to be walked- I take a walk every day. - they think I would get bored of it. - it will take me 5 months to raise the money, if I keep interest in dogs I think I will not get bored. - afraid of house breaking difficulties- I want an older puppy, maybe 6 months old or older. It is easier that way and it will probably come house broken.if not, then I will train it with the help of the internet c= -I am not responsible enough- I think I am. I take care of two cats and I simply want a compainion that is more active and easily trainable, also one that likes to go an walks since I do that anyways. What is there to taking care of my cats? litter box, grooming (they shed,a lot), playing, feeding, training (they are not like dogs and cat roll over or anything but they still need to learn what is wrong and write),love, expenses. Dogs are similar. I think I can handle a dog, I have done my reaserch. the problem is they never listen to what I say. My dad also says this stuff about dogs and cats not getting along and I tell him they can be best friends and sleep together but they never listen to me. I am making a big presentation about chihuahuas. right now it's about 12 slides explaining the pros and cons.I will add on information on weekends like their history and breed standards. I think it will be impressive but I am not sure that they will care. I am also researching papillons and making a presentation about them. I know that they will fall in love with the dog if we get it, after a day or two. They are those type of people. for example : I bought a fish to put in my aquarium and my mom hated it. It was a pictus cat fish, with a silver body and black spots. It moved around supper fast. After a few days of having it my mom fell in love and admitted It was her favorite fist. well............ I am working hard and I really want a chihuahua or papillon. How do I convince them? have any tips?

Hey my in-laws bought our puppy (a siberian husky that will be 10 weeks old on tue) some of the waggin train freshies dental dog bones im just wondering if they are safe for her to eat? MAYBE IM JUST NOT A DOG PERSON? about 6 months ago i bought the cutest little sweetest pitbull puppy. i personally have never owned a dog in my life, so spent many weeks researching online articles and things of that nature, to see if i was competent enough to be a successful dog owner. in spite of all the information....nothing i mean NOTHING.....would prepare me for what was about to come. everything was fine at first but as my dog aged and got a bit bigger, he began to tear up my house, my backyard, and everything he came into contact with. if he doesnt chew it, he eats it, if he doesnt eat it, he rips it to pieces, and if he doesnt rip, he buries it somewhere where no human person can find it. i wanted to have him as a house dog at first, but after several chewed couches, and failed potty training experiences, i thought it would be best to keep him outside. i do not personally believe in chaining or caging dogs to restrict their movements, so he is free to roam the backyard as he pleases. however i often go one or two days not showing him any attention because i am either too tired, too busy, or just plain dont feel like it. i bought him a gigantic dog food bowl which i fill too the top with dog food, fresh boiled vegetables that i cook for him, and sometimes i throw a few bacon bits in there. i purposely fill it all the way up because.........well once....okay twice......i forgot too feed him and i felt so guilty about it that now i think i over feed him for fear of the dog starving to death. there has been many times i forgot too fill his water bowl. i do love the dog i just dont think i was prepared the time and patience he requires. it's like having a kid!!!!!! so anyways is this norma;? or am ii just not a dog person? should i give him away? i do not want to lose him but i also do not want to mistreat him. PEOPLE I DO REALIZE THAT I AM IRRESPONSIBLE. HOWEVER I DID NOT ASK THIS QUESTION TO BE BASHED OR PUT DOWN I ASKED BECAUSE I DO WANT HELP. OBVIOUSLY IF I DID NOT ALREADY REALIZE THAT I HAVE A PROBLEM THEN I WOULD NOT ASK THE QUESTION. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR ANSWERS TO THOSE WHO WERE DECENT.
Highly recommended virtual horse game? I joined a site called dog dayzz a few months ago and it's a pretty good game where you run your own kennel and can breed, train.etc... your dogs. Anyway I'm trying to find a free online horse game that's similar to dog dayzz. I tried virtual horse ranch but it's a little a dull and white oak stables doesn't seem to be that great. I'm thinking of trying another game called Howrse which seems to be similar to what I'm looking for. But I could use some recommendations. I've been going for horsemanship lessons for almost a month now and was thinking of recommending a game like howrse for the students to play when they're not actually with the horses since I know a few of them and the trainers. Any suggestions?
Vegetarian diet for dogs research, your opinions? Here we go… As you may or may not know, I don't eat meat for ethical, environmental, and health reasons. Whether you agree/disagree with my personal choice, please don't slight this question because of that. I am personally healthier than I've ever been, I haven't been sick at all in the past two years since I went vegan and for the first time in my life I FEEL healthy, so veganism works for me. This isn't the place for arguing about human diets, so let me go on. I have two young, large breed dogs, and as their care provider I look out for their best interests. After doing a lot of research on dog foods I had settled on a kibble I'm happy with until I could securely start them on a raw diet. I feel at home researching vitamins, supplements, natural sources of protein, digestive properties, because I took the same care when I made the personal switch, and do the same for my dogs. And yes, I realize the requirements for me are not the same for them. I wanted to start my dogs on a raw diet because of all the positive testimonials I had heard. Buying marrow bones for them to snack on and hot dog treats for training is one thing, but when I went into the deli to actually get prices on meats, I'll be honest, it was a lot for me to take in when I saw the meat locker open. Hanging pigs and racks of cow, things that I don't agree with or can even stomach anymore, and here I was getting prices on these dead animals in bulk to feed to my dogs. I felt hypocritical, and while that may be something I need to address with myself, it made me want to at least ponder other options. I had seen Natural Balance Vegetarian formula in Petco, and was intrigued by the idea and knew a lot of people who recommended this brand. And it met AAFCO standards, if anything it is something I could try. So I started looking online, and there are a lot of vegetarian options for dogs. I'll list them so you can view them and please give your opinion or any red flags you may see. I've also posted factsheets on vegetarian dog diets. FACTSHEETS/WEBSITES: http://www.helpinganimals.com/pdfs/Dog_Health_Survey.pdf http://www.vegsoc.org/info/dogfood1.html (also a dogfood2.html) http://www.vegforlife.org/dogscats.htm http://www.peta.org/factsheet/files/FactsheetDisplay.asp?ID=34 COMPANIES: http://v-dogfood.com/ AAFCO approved http://www.vegepet.com/ Supplement to homemade kibble http://www.naturesrecipe.com/recipe_detail.aspx?id=424 Nature's Recipe AAFCO approved http://www.petguard.com/dog-products/dry-food/petguard-organics-adult-dry-dog-food Free of Corn, Soy, Wheat, and Yeast fillers http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dogformulas/Vegetarian.html Natural Balance AAFCO approved And there are more on the web sites provided. If these companies can create a kibble that is healthy for dogs, it also crosses my mind that a raw vegetable diet should be okay for dogs also, along with proper supplements if needed. I would much rather feed fresh than kibble, but I've found very little information on that online. Your thoughts with that would be appreciated. Also, I plan on doing trial runs with both of them on either the raw veggie or veggie kibble diets, whichever I'm more comfortable with doing. And if they're healthy to my standards and that of my vet, I will then keep it. But I won't make them stay on it if it doesn't agree with their bodies. And depending on how it goes, I may go on to try a raw diet, but not all dogs do excellent on that, either. Just warranting opinions, hopefully opinions of intelligent people who can respond as such. And don't tell me to rehome my dogs, unless you'll personally take them and let me have them on weekends (sike), that's not happening. But please be open-minded and considerate, as I'm seeking out my dog's best interest, with my interests in mind. Marketing gimmicks that are still approved by AAFCO. Carnivores they may be, but they are not obligate carnivores. They do not need protein from meat to survive, or even to sustain. If dogs were strict carnivores, then all the purina / ol roy / pedigree food that is mostly CORN and WHEAT would have killed them by now, but we all know dogs who are basically corn-fed and have lived long, healthy lives. Not defending these corn brands, but it's still something to consider. And in the amount of time it took you to respond, I can tell you checked all the links out and read what I posted in detail. Thanks. Dachs - I am aware it is just what makes me feel better, The question is geared towards whether they can sustain. Everyone brings up wolves in the wild, and while I know they are direct descendants, I don't know of anyone who lets their dog attack a duck, possum, squirrel, etc., and let them devour it "like they would in the wild." So no one takes care of their dogs like a wolf takes care of itself, they are domesticated after all. GSD - If you read the ingredients in a lot of the veg foods, a lot of it is fully natural and what isn't is vitamins and mineral supplements. You could argue the same about 'man made chemical compounds" with over 50% of approved dog foods on the market. Plant protein and Animal protein are equal when it comes to amino acids and how they break down, the only difference is with Taurine, which dogs create on their own. Thank you Paul, and that's a good idea Jenny about kosher meat. Lauren. "can't" and "shouldn't" have different meanings, please learn them. Thank you, GSD. Ultimately, like I said, I'll try it out if I do feel comfortable with it, which I don't as of yet. I'm just trying to gather as much info as possible. I've been vegan the entire time I've had these two, and I've always told myself they eat meat because it's what's best for them, but like I said.. I'm trying to ponder all options. If only one does well on the veg. diet, then that's great, I'll keep the other one on the diet that works for them. If they both do poor, they will be fed what is optimal for their bodies, and at least I'll know I tried. Tria - I don't want a rabbit. I may go with the idea of free range and kosher if anything, but I could never afford premade raw food for my 50 and 70 lb dogs, unfortunately. Thanks Rachel :) Genetic makeup is another thing to consider, you're right. There's still a lot to consider, like if they'll even like it! I'm glad you can tell the difference between me and some lunatic trying to feed their dogs an all-apple diet. Thank you, GSD. After 13 'no' responses I didn't think anyone on this forum would be helpful with it, thanks. Curtis - I said I'm not rehoming my dogs under any circumstances or getting a damn rabbit. Unless YOU are going to come take them, bike ride 12 miles with them a day, make homemade treats every sunday night and stuff all their kongs for the work week, cut up packages and packages of hot dogs for training, vacuum up after Josie twice a week, put up with her anxiety and velcro tendency, Zoey's excited peeing, her tail knocking drinks and papers off the coffee table all.the.time., take them swimming weekly, drag their limp bodies into their crates every night when they try to sleep in the bedroom (they become QUITE unconscious, imagine that), buy nic nacs for them anywhere you go because they're YOUR girls and mean their weight in gold to you. I love and take care of them, so thanks for NOT reading my full post
Help with newly adopted abused dog!? I recently was looking for a small dog. I found an ad for a free 1 year old chorkie online and it was in the same small town as me so I figured I would go look. What I found appears to be a Schnauzer/yorkie mi (about15-20lbs) who is so fearful that there is no doubt the boy has been abused. He bonded to me instantly and I took him home. He fears everyone else. My parents and siblings who live next door, my friends.. He is terrified someone is going to hurt him. Now I've only had him a few days and I love him and he has a home here forever but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on a few things... 1. His fear- can I help him overcome it? I know he will probably always be scared of people (other then me for some odd reason) but can I slowly get him to be okay with family and friend somehow? 2. Marking - While he is potty trained (no major accidents and will wait at door to be let out). I caught him trying to make just once in the house and i wanna brake this before it starts full force, but I don't want to scare him :( 3. Chewing - When i am not home or I am asleep he will chew on papers and some small plastic things. He has a few toys but can anyone give me any other ideas or know of some really good toys? Thats about it.. otherwise Murphy is the perfect dog! True I was looking for something 6lbs and under, but I came out the best taking him home =) BTW he gets along with my dane perfectly. No problem there. Yes we do have proof he was abused. The fact that he husband grabed to other dogs that had gotten out and litterally threw them from the front porch though the door (a good 20 feet) into the house. And when asking the people around them it was confirmed that the are seen hitting and yelling at the dogs constantly. I have already contacted animal control and the police. So yes I DO know he was abused.

I would really like some advice on this? so monday, tuesday and thursday I help teach obedience classes at my local shelter, its more of an internship really I work at the shelter for other stuff monday through friday a few weeks ago, I called one of my co-workers (actually the person I'm working under) while I was drunk. all I did was say HI. so I was suspended from the shelter for a week when I came back she said if I proved myself I would be able to have all of her information from animal behavior college. (basically I would be doing the class for free) well, she told me today that the staff at the shelter are still 'keeping an eye on me' and this is a crap-load of betrayal and hurt basically I had trusted them and they stabbed me in the back, a few times so when she told me I got really bummed out again. I am currently in a program where a government program pays me to work there. I'm thinking that once this program is over, I'll be done there. just help with obedience stuff but now I'm not sure I was planning on doing vet tech college online, then going to the Tom Rose school for dog training what do you think? are there any other options besides waiting forever to save up the money to do tom rose? can you think of any other ways I can gain knowledge for dog training? I love doing that, but I also want to get in to vet tech or even going to be vet Tmw- I was not drinking at work, and never dealt with any animals at that time I was at a party, and called to talk to her.
Puppies. Where can i find them online.? Ok. I would like a puppy (less than 1 year old) that does not shed and is a small dog when it grows up. I would like it to be free or under 100 dollars. I know that is hard to find, but i would really like a dog! Also it needs to be in Cumming, GA. or anywhere really close. Plus it needs to be a nice dog that is easy to train and loves people. Does anyone know how i could find it!? Please, all answers are helpful! The more the better!!!! Thank you!
How is this in violation of yahoo's guidelines? I answered a question. The question was a single mum who's kid had just moved out. I said... "Firstly, don't trust those online things. Most of them are scams, and they aren't reliable. You need to get your resume updated. There are usually ads in the newspaper for resume writers. Take some courses to make yourself more "employable", such as bookkeeping, etc. My aunt, who has previously been a stay at home mum, has got a reception job by taking a few courses and looking. Think about your career dreams and what you really want to do. Write lists, think about what you want in a job. You could apply to be a front office receptionist at a fancy hotel, or a cleaning job. You could apply to a supermarket or other retail store, or factory. If you want to stay at home and work from home, or own your own business, to make the transition process to work then here are some options: -You could try telemarketing. You could do that from home. Call up telstra, optus, 3, and various companies, or look on their websites to see if they are currently hiring. -You could also start your own business making cakes, growing flowers and selling them, breeding dogs, making greeting cards, making soup, selling hand-sewn clothes, etc. and sell through a website, outside a store, through friends, etc. -You could also try taxi driving. Depending on your country, you may need a special licence or may not be old enough, but you could always try once you are eligible. My cousin used to drive taxis. A good place to pick up customers is in the city, at airports, hotels, restaurants, train stations and places like that. -If you are interested in skincare/makeup and/or cleaning produces and/or vitamins and health supplements then I suggest you try selling through pro-ma. Pro-ma works through independent distributors, and you get a competitive sales percentage. Unlike tupperware, your percentage increases the more you sell, and they have free training courses and books that you can buy. Here is their website: http://www.pro-masystems.com.au/ This is the income plan: http://www.pro-masystems.com.au/ You can also ask for help from an existing distributor. -If you have some money saved up, you could own a franchise such as dunkin' donuts, subway, wendy's, mcdonalds, gloria jeans, krispy kreme, etc. However, you may be required to work long hours and would most likely need to be on your feet a lot of the time. -You could also be a freelance artist, website designer, writer, etc. You get to make your own hours, and you can work from home. -You could also get into blogging. I know someone who gets their income by making blogs on various topics such as gardening, legal, makeup, cooking, computers, etc. You can buy articles, and you get paid to have advertisements. Or you can save money and write your own articles. -You could also try doing odd jobs such as moving, cleaning, etc for your neighbours. Or, you could do dog walking. Make fliers and send them all over the neighbourhood. The great thing about dog walking is that you get excercise and fresh air, you can work at your own hours, and you get to spend time with animals. You could try and be a house sitter, a sports coach, or volunteer if you can't get a job. The great thing about volunteering is that it's easy to get work, and although you don't get paid, its something great that you can put on your resume. I hope that you find something. Keep looking, and consider being a sales rep for a pro-ma. I think it would be a good, flexible option, plus you could win an overseas holiday! Keep looking :)" I did appeal, and it didn't work.
need advice on keeping dog out of trouble when im away? my almost year old puppy has pretty much had the run of my apartment since he was potty trained with minimal damage done to my apartment. i came home monday from work to my bottom step missing half of the carpet which he then threw up and pooped out for two days. i know all about crating and did that when he was younger but he was so good in the house i didnt feel it necessary anymore. i did gate him in the kitchen for awhile after the crating but he just knocked the gate down as he got bigger. anyway im looking for a very sturdy gate to keep him in the kitchen when im at work i dont view crating as wrong but dont think its fair to him after he was able to be free for so long. the pet stores around here sell really crappy gates and the ones i want online are on backorder. as i said i live in an aprtment with neighbours all around me. i plan on leaving him plenty of toys and kongs but i know my dog and i know he is not going to be a happy camper and prob bark his head off. i am getting new carpet so cannot afford for this to happen again. my boyfriend thinks its not fair to confine him now. ALSO, there is now way he was bored or not tired. he ran before i went to work and i pay my little sis to walk him and take him to the park. he did it after she left and i got home an hour and half later so i dont understand why he did it. any advice on reasonably priced gates and what do it do if he busts out and does anyone else have this problem. thx for telling me he will grow out of it. come to think of it he does have that bratty attitude lately. he is neutered and we did classes which thank god he does listen to me when i really need him too.
So grain is bad for dogs, right? And that includes wheat, right? Well, I've been browsing dog treat recipes online because pre-made treats are expensive and chock full of preservatives and additives. But ALL the recipes include some sort of flour. I'm guessing that's because there's no other way to hold the treats together. So is just a little bit of flour fine and dandy? Or should I be looking somewhere else for a dog treat? I've just switched my dogs to a grain-free food (Taste of the Wild) and I really want them to be healthy - they've been rather sluggish lately. But I also desperately need training aids, as I just adopted a senior English Mastiff who is NOT leash-trained. Advice, anyone? These are the treat recipes I was planning on using; other than the flour, they look really healthy. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Diabetic-Dog-Treats/Detail.aspx http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Peanut-Butter-and-Pumpkin-Dog-Treats/Detail.aspx My Mastiff loves MINT. Dog breath fresheners of any sort make her very happy. Thanks, y'all - I am going to try dehydrating some meat and/or organ bits. I never even thought of that! I do wish that I could find a way to make treats with mint and parsley, though. The mastiff loves them so much, and I like the whole fresh breath thing. I may try making a minty glaze for the meat...

Do u like doggie stories? du u have one 2 share? plz tell - here's one i saw online this morn BY mike ensley; Most people, when they get a dog, are thinking mostly about the two months of puppy they want to enjoy rather than the 10 years of dog they don't plan on preparing for. As I gave the Yorkie a bath, at times fighting my gag reflex as chunks of filth came off, I kept seeing that adorable little face looking up at me, the cute canin

Has anyone ever tried vi-pro plus on a dog with distemper if so what was result? Vi-Pro Plus Natural and Effective Help for Canine Distemper and Viral Infections Use Vi-Pro Plus for Pets: As an oral homeopathic vaccine to immunize your dog against Canine Distemper and other viral infections To protect against Distemper infection during a known outbreak To treat active Canine Distemper under veterinarian supervision See Below To Purchase This Product Treatment | Testimonials | Ingredients | Dosage | Ask Us | FAQ's What is Canine Distemper and what are the symptoms? Canine distemper is a highly contagious, extremely serious viral disease which occurs in dogs and other wild canids (e.g.. foxes, wolves and coyotes), raccoons, skunks and ferrets. It is an airborne virus, which affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous system of the animal. Puppies between three and six months and elderly animals are particularly at risk. Symptoms grow increasingly severe as the disease progresses, they include: Conjunctivitis (a watery, pus-like eye discharge) and inflammation of the eye Fever Nasal discharge Pneumonia (Coughing and labored breathing)_ Lethargy Reduced appetite Vomiting Diarrhea Seizures Hyperesthesia (increased sensitivity to sensory stimuli, such as pain or touch) Muscle twitching Progressive deterioration of mental abilities and motor skills Complete or partial paralysis What is the conventional treatment? There is no doubt that Canine Distemper is a serious illness. According to conventional veterinarian treatment, about 50% of dogs that contract it will die. Those that survive will often be left with debilitating conditions like permanent digestive problems, neurological problems, seizure disorders, deformities of the paw pads, etc. According to conventional veterinarian science, Distemper 'cannot be cured' and treatment is supportive only. Vaccination programs against Canine Distemper have made this viral illness less common in recent times. However, holistic vets point out that there are serious concerns about the wisdom of routine vaccination and its long term effect on the health of pets. What are the alternatives? Homeopathic vets have managed to treat Canine Distemper far more successfully than their allopathic counterparts. Using Distemperinum in homeopathic potency, both immunization of dogs as well as recovery rates in infected animals has proved to be highly successful. There is a wealth of evidence that this is the case and one can only wonder why allopathic vets are not making use of and being trained in the use of homeopathic medicine for their patients. Dr Horace B.F. Jervis, a veterinarian who pioneered the use of Distemperinum published a monograph in 1929 called 'Treatment of Canine Distemper with the Potentized Virus' Dr Jervis reports his frustration over many failed attempts at treating Canine Distemper during years of conventional treatment in a veterinarian clinic. This lead him to turn away from conventional veterinarian science and to begin treating his patients using the principles of homeopathic medicine. After developing a homeopathic treatment for Distemper, Dr Jervis writes: "I became intensely interested in the subject and bent all my energies to the study of it. My results were, and are, so much beyond my expectations that I am sorry not to be able to interest more veterinarians to take it up and give it a trial. Anyone doing so, I venture to say, will never go back to the old school again...Since commencing the use of this product the death rate in my distemper ward has been very materially decreased, and I have really for the first time in my years of practice felt a sort of load being lifted from my shoulders." Similarly, Dr Dorothy Shepherd, in her book, "Homeopathy in Epidemic Diseases" notes: "Here again homeopathy offers the best solution. Believe me, it has been shown again and again that our medicines given intelligently and according to our law, do not only cure infectious diseases speedily and easily without the development of any complications, but they also prevent these same diseases. ....I therefore have no hesitation in stating that from my own experience and observation, the homeopathic preventives are much safer in use, and absolutely certain in their effects. Even should the infectious, disease develop, it will be in a much milder form" In the words of Dr Richard Pitcairn, D.V.M., Ph.D, and founder of the Animal Natural Health Center (ANHC): "Based on my clinical experience, I think I can safely say that protection with nosodes is as reliable as with vaccinations and with the added advantage of few unwelcome side effects." What is Vi-Pro Plus? Vi-Pro Plus combines a Distemperinum nosode in homeopathic dose with homeopathic Bryonia and an herbal preparation of Echinacea, providing powerful protection against Distemper as well as many other viral illnesses. Used preventatively to immunize your dog, or curatively under the treatment of a homeopathic vet, Vi-Pro Plus can mean the difference between life and death. 50ml See Below To Purchase This Product What are the ingredients of Vi-Pro Plus? PetAlive Vi-Pro Plus contains the following 100% herbal and homeopathic ingredients: Distemperinum C30 is a homeopathic nosode used both prophylactically (preventatively) and curatively in the treatment of Canine Distemper. Homeopathic nosodes are similar to vaccines in that they help to build protection and resistance against specific diseases. They differ to conventional vaccines in that they are usually manufactured from the products of diseases rather than from a culture of the disease agent or virus itself (as in many conventional vaccines.) Research by Dr Horace B. F. Jervis, a veterinarian that pioneered the use of Distemperinum, has demonstrated the high rate of success in the treatment and prevention of Canine Distemper using this homeopathic 'vaccine'. This is in contrast to conventional veterinarian science, which states that more than 50% of dogs who contract this virus will die and the remainder will be very severely compromised for the rest of their lives. Bryonia C6 is a proven homeopathic remedy which is very effective for the treatment of coughs and dry mucus membranes, as well as the clearing of mucus from the chest. Echinacea purpurea is one of the top selling herbs for the treatment of colds, flu and other viral infections. Clinical trials have proved its effectiveness in a variety of settings. Studies have shown that Echinacea works by preventing the formation of hyaluronidase - an enzyme that is known to break the cell barriers between healthy tissue and pathogenic organisms like viruses. This immune boosting herb has also been successfully used to restore immune functioning in patients who have undergone chemotherapy. Lactose (inactive ingredient) (PetAlive Vi-Pro Plus contains no gluten, artificial flavors, colors or preservatives) How has Vi-Pro helped others? "I am moved to write in and say that our family dog would probably not be with us today were it not for this remedy. When our usual vet diagnosed a very ill dog with Distemper things looked very serious and he thought so too. Under his supervision we used your remedy because others have worked very well and we have all been amazed at the quick recovery. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts." - Sandy. "Luckily our vet agrees with us about yearly vaccination unlike the previous one who wanted to vaccinate every year. Our puppy is taking your Vi-Pro for Distemper to protect her against distemper and other viruses and we are confident that it will be as successful as your other products have been, including your EasyTravel for car sickness!" - Graham "This product is fantastic - from ease of administration to effectiveness it gets 10/10 from me. I have used all your oral vaccination products for my dogs with great confidence and they remain healthy and disease free." - Brent. "Here's my story. I bought a dog from a breeder in kentucky I am in Louisiana. I could not drive to meet [him] , so I decided to have him sent via airplane... The next day he started to have a seizure it was very unnerving. The Vet did some blood work and other test. He determined that our brand new dog that we instantly fell in love with had distemper and would most likely die or not be normal for the rest of his life if we were lucky. We don't have alot of money and they were recomending very expensive treatments. We being the good loving people we are turned to God in this circumstance. We searched for answers online, and by praying nonstop. Finally my mom who is a diehard holistic medicine believer turn us on to the thought of a natural cure. So, I searched and it did not take long. I found this site and was skeptical, because I am by nature. Well needless to say It came in the mail very fast. Then we begain treating him. Nothing happened at first, same old seizures 5 to ten times a day. Then one day he we woke up to him being more active... Now I am happy and blessed to say we have a wonderful healthy almost 1 year old puppy. He has made a full recovery... He brings much happiness to our home, and I truly feel this medicine had a part in that. God bless Native Remedies." - Richard M, LA "My dog was diagnosed with distemper. She became deathly ill! She wouldn't eat, or drink. Thinking I had done everything possible to save her, my last attempt was Vi-pro Plus. After just a few doses I saw the effect it made. She gradually got better and better. Without a doubt; Vi-pro plus saved her life. Thank you so much for saving my dogs life! I dig holes if anyone cares ...rain, heat, snow & frozen ground ... I dig holes. Big ones ...little ones...round ones...square ones Holes.... It Sucks Mind Numbing Back Breaking Horrible Drugged up Co-Workers Bosses Who are Mental Handicapped Digging Holes SUCKS!! I've got a engineering degree ... and I dig holes God, I'd love to work with animals ... but I don't see me becoming a Vet...as I could never cut one open w/ out puking I'm not going to be vet's receptionist What ta do what to do... ---Bobbie L--- Like any training class anywhere in the world ... the class is only as good as the 'so-called trainer' ... so, petco/smart or and AKC club or the yellow pages or the guy down the street it really doesn't matter. What you saw one time one day with one of your dogs at one petco really doesn't matter or mean a thing to me nor should it to anyone else. I'd never take a class with someone with such an attitude problem as you & LOVED the one puppy class I took at Petco. And I am training dogs not 'use to be' so I know what I'm talking about. A) what is a day club? and B) How many people bring their dogs to people who are AKC obedience judges??.. I'm going to take a wild guess that its not many ... as someone who's taken dogs through obedience & agility trials & helps trains dogs & knows hundreds of people with dogs & done volunteer work at shelters...I've yet to meet 1 So good luck with your attitude...please don't ever talk to me again ---bcdawgma44--- I would be able to pay my rent w/ 1/2 pay, I own my car, I don't drink or do drugs, I don't have a wife or kids, I don't smoke or gamble, I don't chase women or anything...I play the guitar and play with my dog ... I make a lot of $$ and have nothing to do with & wake up miserable every day. Computer engineering & I owned 3 families and flipper real estate while running my own computer co. It all went south almost 2yrs ago now, so I was happy to let someone else write the pay checks for a while. I see you train & with highly credentialed people ..but I noticed you didn't say you were, not that its a bad thing, just pointing out YOU train and do NOT have those. If I take a job at Petco I WILL be making a living as a dog trainer, not a good one, but I can get side work and build something ... it may take years to get what I make now...but at least I wouldn't dread waking up in the morning. ---bcdawgma44--- I hope my last comment did sound insulting as to your credentials .. I was running out of characters to respond. Think of human teachers or 'trainers' if you will. They teach at all levels, pre-school, high school, trade school, ivory league collages & community collages. Even with a single school there are really good teachers and bad. I believe the same to be true with trainers... The ones the make the most $$ are the best sales people, not the best trainers. And people who charge more because they are obedience judges, probably only work with people trying to get their dogs to that level. They probably aren't the best trainers for people trying to work with their troubled pets. Is this normal puppy behaviour? Shes 3 months old? My puppy is 3 months old & I've had her a few of days. I'm reading a book on puppy training & it says to use pieces of dried food when she does something right but she doesn't react to the smell or sight of food the way it says in the book. She has no interest at all so I tried doggy chocolate buttons & again no interest. So finally I tried breaking up a slice of ham & finally I got a big reaction. So I fed her later on (dry food softened with some water) but she didn't want it. I want her to eat it straightaway rather than free feed & she should be hungry but she doesn't come running like I've seen other dogs do & needs coaxing to eat her food quickly. Right now shes eating a doggy treat shes saved from lastnight but I thought dogs scoffed those things soon as they got them. When outside she tries to eat everything (plants & stones) & now shes started trying to eat coal & my curtains inside, yet shes not that interested in normal puppy pedigree food!! I read online that dogs poop an hour after they eat but although she poops twice a day or so it could be 5 mins after dinner or hours after. The other thing is when shes giddy she makes biting motions. She might be on my lap & kind of nibble & lick my hand or clothes. Usually when shes doing that she rolls around like crazy & lets her tongue loll out. We both discourage it but my boyfriend thinks its playfulness. We were playing with a rope toy today & she was loving it but it seemed like she was jumping up to try to get the side that was in my hand & after a few minutes she got me. Its just a scrape really but I don't know if it was an accident caused by her getting all excited while we played or if she meant to do it. When I said ow & dropped the toy she ran up onto my lap & started licking me. So does she not like the food & is all this normal puppy behaviour? Should I take the bowl of food away after a certain amount of time to show her she should eat it when its offered? Thanks in advance :) Shes half sheep dog half labrador. I think she gets enough excersise because she tears around the place until shes exhausted & then sleeps for ages! I'm working on the walk thing though, trying to get her to walk on the lead. I know she was eating pedigree before I got her. Is there something wrong with pedigree? Some people say its good but most seem to go "urgh". Maybe I'll get her something different today

I was cleaning out my wife's grandpa's cellar and found 12 bottles of his home-bottled grape wine under the steps. My wife told me to empty the contents of each and every bottle down the sink, or else. I agreed to do the unpleasant task. I withdrew the cork form the first bottle and poured the contents down the sink, with the exception of one glass, which I drank. I extracted the cork from the second bottle, did likewise, and drank one glass, just to check the taste to see if the old fellow knew his wine making. He did. I then opened the third bottle, and poured it, too, down the sink, but not until drinking one full glass to check the purity. It was very good. I did this, also with the fourth bottle. One glass for myself, and the rest down the sink. I pulled the bottle from the cork of the next, and drank one sink out of it and threw the rest down the glass. I pulled the sink out of the next glass and poured the cork from the bottle, then corked the sink with the glass, bottled the drink and drank the pour. When I had everything emptied, I steadied the house with one hand, counted the bottles, corks, glasses and sinks with the other, which were 29, and as the house came by I counted them again, and finally had all the houses in one bottle, which I drank. I felt so foolish that I couldn't go upstairs and congratulate my wife to tell her what a great winemaker her grandpa was. I will do that after climbing the basement steps the next time they come by. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Junior had just received his brand new drivers license. She'd specifically said to the undertaker that she wanted him buried in his blue suit; she'd brought it especially for that occasion, and she was distressed that the mortician had left him in the same brown suit he'd been wearing when the lightning bolt hit him. She demanded that the corpse be changed into the blue suit she'd brought especially for that purpose. The undertaker said, "But madam! It's only a minute or two until the funeral is scheduled to begin! We can't possibly take him out and get him changed in that amount of time. The lady said, "Who's paying for this?" Seeing the logic to this argument, a very reluctant mortician wheeled the coffin out, but then wheeled it right back in a moment later. Miraculously, the corpse was in a blue suit. After the ceremony, a well-satisfied widow complimented the undertaker on the smooth and speedy service. She especially wanted to know how he'd been able to get her husband into a blue suit so fast. The funeral director said, "Oh, it was easy. It happens that there was another body in the back room and he was already dressed in a blue suit. how can I train him not too....? chase my cats anymore we have a can with pennies in it that we shake when he's chasing them. but sometimes that doesn't even work. we tried a water bottle. he's decent at the leave it command....but its like he cant hear us when he's focused on the cat. we adopted him from the shelter when he was 6 months old he's been sick, but he's better now, so I'm going to start bringing him back to class (Im an intern at an obedience class) for socialization and all and when I'm at the shelter (that's where class is) I'm considering sticking him in a room with cats...either mean tomcats (worked for a shelter staff) or dog friendly cats but any tips for what else to do at home? I'm considering keeping him on a leash in the house and now that he's well I'm going to be able to get him more exercise. I bought a kitty condo online to put in the laundry room so the cats want to be in there more. he's been making progress...slowly but surely. what are we doing wrong? or will it just take a long time? will it ever get to the point where they can walk by him w/o him chasing them? my other dogs allow them to be free, Meri is a great dane and Bella is a boxer/terrier mix. they kill animals in my backyard... but they leave the house cats alone. thanks guys! and I know I've asked this a few times...but I need more advice and I KNOW he has an extremely high prey drive (bloodhound/apbt mix) and I KNEW that when we adopted him. but my dog Bella had a high prey drive, and we were able to train her to leave them alone....and Meri never really cared about them I've been able to teach them everything I've wanted to...the only other problem behavior-wise is Meri pulls on the leash sometimes...and I am getting an easy walk harness for that (not like a regular harness...it stops the pulling)
A day at the IT support in a company.....................................? 1. When a tech says he's coming right over, log out and go for coffee. It's no problem for us to remember 2700 network passwords. 2. When you call us to have your computer moved, be sure to leave it buried under half a ton of postcards, baby pictures, stuffed animals, dried flowers, bowling trophies and Popsicle art. We don't have a life, and we find it deeply moving to catch a fleeting glimpse of yours. 3. When tech support sends you an e-mail with high importance, delete it at once. We're probably just testing out the public groups. 4. When a tech is eating lunch at his desk, walk right in and spill your guts out and expect him to respond immediately. We exist only to serve and are always ready to think about fixing computers. 5. When Pat is at the water cooler or outside having a smoke, ask her a mail question. The only reason why she drinks water or smokes at all is to ferret out all those users who don't have email or a telephone line. 6. Send urgent email ALL IN UPPERCASE. The mail server picks it up and flags it as a rush delivery. 7. When you call a tech's direct line, press 5 to skip the bilingual greeting that says he's out of town for a week, record your message, and wait exactly 24 hours before you send an email straight to the director because no one ever returned your call. You're entitled to common courtesy. 8. When the photocopier doesn't work, call computer support. There's electronics in it, right? 9. When you're getting a NO DIAL TONE message at home, call computer support. We can even fix telephone problems from here. 10. When something's wrong with your home PC, dump it on a tech's chair with no name, no phone number, and no description of the problem. We love a good mystery. 11. When you have a tech on the phone walking you through changing a setting read the paper. We don't actually mean for you to DO anything we just love to hear ourselves talk. 12. When we offer training on an upcoming software upgrade, don't bother. We'll be there to hold your hand after it is done. 13. When the printer won't print, re-send the job at least 20 times. Print jobs frequently just disappear into the cosmos for no reason. 14. When the printer still won't print after 20 tries, send the job to all 68 printers in the office. One of them is bound to work. 15. Don't use online help. Online help is for wimps. 16. If you're taking night classes in computer science, feel free to go around and update the network drivers for you and all you co-workers. We're grateful for the overtime when we have to stay until 2:30am fixing them. 17. When you have a tech fixing your computer at a quarter past one, eat your lunch in his face. We function better when slightly dizzy. 18. Don't ever thank us. We love this AND we get paid for it! 19. When a tech asks you whether you've installed any new software on this computer, lie. It's nobody's business what you've got on your computer. 20. If the mouse cable keeps knocking down the framed picture of your dog, lift the computer and stuff the cable under it. Mouse cables were designed to have 45 lbs. of computer sitting on top of them. 21. If the space bar on your keyboard doesn't work, blame it on the mail upgrade. Keyboards work much better with half a pound of muffin crumbs, nail clippings, and big sticky drops of Coke under the keys. 22. When you get the message saying "Are you sure?", click on that Yes button as fast as you can. Hell, if you weren't sure, you wouldn't Be doing it, would you? 23. Feel perfectly free to say things like "I don't know nothing about that computer crap". It never bothers us to hear our area of professional expertise referred to as crap. 24. When you need to change the toner cartridge, call tech support. Changing a toner cartridge is an extremely complex task, and Hewlett-Packard recommends that it be performed only by a professional engineer with a Master's degree in nuclear physics. 25. When something's the matter with your computer, ask your secretary to call the help desk. We enjoy the challenge of having to deal with a third party who doesn't know jack shit about the problem. 26. When you receive a 30-meg movie file, send it to everyone as a high-priority mail attachment. We've got plenty of disk space and processor capacity on that mail server. 27. Don't even think of breaking large print jobs down into smaller chunks. God forbid somebody else might get a chance to squeeze into the queue. 28. When you bump into a tech in the grocery store on a Saturday, ask a computer question. We work 24/7, even while at the grocery store on weekends. 29. If your son is a student in computer science, have him come in on the weekends and do his projects on your office computer. We'll be there for you when his illegal copy of Visual Basic 6.0 makes your Access database flip out. 30. When you bring us your own no-brand home PC to repair for free at the office, tell us how urgently we need to fix it so your son can get back to playing DOOM. We'll get right on it because we have so much free time at the office. Everybody knows all we do is surf the Internet all day anyway.
High/low quality cat foods? I've noticed that so many more people in the cat section feed low quality cat foods whereas in the dog section many more people are aware of what they are feeding their dogs. In the dog section, if someone asks a pet food question, there's like ten people in there explaining about higher quality dog foods. In the cat section, it feels like I'm alone with another two or three people while all the other answerers are recommending low quality foods like Meow Mix, Purina, Iams etc. and recommending feeding dry instead of wet. My cat food writeup: Not all pet food is made equally. A lot of it is full of corn, by-products, dyes, unhealthy preservatives, filler grains and all sorts of nasty stuff. A lot of pet food companies are perfectly happy to the dump cheap leftovers and things that aren't safe for human consumption (from human food processing plants) into their foods. Will it kill your cat? No, it has to be nutritionally complete and safe to even be marketed. Is it healthy? Not by a long shot. Corn is a low quality ingredient you never want to see in your pet food. Corn and low quality grains are two of the biggest culprits when it comes to food allergies in our pets. Thankfully, there are some excellent cat foods being made these days that include organic, human grade ingredients rather than trash not fit for human consumption. Examples of low quality foods to avoid: Anything you can find in a grocery store will be low end, Purina, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Royal Canin, Whiskas, Fancy Feast, Friskies, Meow Mix. Examples of high quality foods to look for: Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, Felidae, Fromm Four Star, Merrick, GO Natural, Nature's Variety Prairie, Nature's Logic, Artemis Fresh Mix, Timber Wolf Organics. Although the high quality foods are more expensive, you're getting what you're paying for. Less filler material means more concentrated nutrients... this means you typically need to feed far less of the high quality food than you would of the low quality one. Which also means less poop! Before following your vet's food recommendation, keep in mind that vets get /very/ little nutritional training during their schooling. Besides that, what training they /do/ get is usually sponsored or taught by the crappy pet food companies! They also often get paid to sell some of their products at their clinics (Science Diet, Royal Canin etc.) A great option is to go with an entirely grainless diet. Diets high in grain have been attributed to problems with diabetes in cats. Cats are obligate carnivores, so why should there be grain in their diet? Many of the high quality foods now put out grainless formulas. Some good grainless diets include: Innova EVO, Wellness CORE, Blue Wilderness, Nature's Variety Instinct, Orijen, Horizon Legacy, Merrick Before Grain, Fromm Surf & Turf, Now!, and Sold Gold Indigo Moon, Taste of the Wild. Some pretty decent foods can even be found in common pet stores. Petsmart carries Blue Buffalo products (such as the excellent grain free diet Blue Wilderness). Petco carries Wellness, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Eagle Pack Holistic, Blue Buffalo, Castor & Pollux Organix, Pinnacle, and Halo. If you can't find a food, most of the high quality food brands have websites with store locators on them. Another option, if you can't find anywhere around you that sells good foods, is to order your pet food online. Here's an excellent place to do so: http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/ Remember that foods should be switched gradually (mixing new slowly in with the old over about a two week period), especially when switching to a higher quality one, so as not to upset tummies. Another option for feeding cats is to feed raw. This is something that should be thoroughly researched before being attempted: http://www.barfworld.com/ http://www.rawfedcats.org/ http://www.rawfed.com/ http://www.wysong.net/controversies/rawmeat.shtml Now the question is, do you feed wet or dry? Wet is the correct answer. The reason is, in the wild, cats normally get most of their water content directly from their prey items and drink very little. Domestic cats are no different, and because of the fact that they are designed to take in water with their meal, they have a very low thirst drive. Cats often just don't drink enough. This leads to urinary tract infections and crystals. The bit about dry food being better for teeth is a myth and has not been proven in the least (cats barely even chew their dry food and, really, does a pretzel clean /your/ teeth? Cats should have their teeth brushed with cat toothbrushes and cat toothpaste at least a few times a week as well as see the vet for dental cleanings when necessary /regardless/ of what they are being fed). Canned/wet food is better because it more closely mimics the cat's natural diet. More on why canned food is best: http://www.catinfo.org/ (Excellent cat nutrition information by a vet) http://cats.about.com/cs/catfood/a/cann Blah. Question cut off. http://cats.about.com/cs/catfood/a/canned_food.htm http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library&act=show&item=whycatsneedcannedfood http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bpo_ch4.php Another option to get cats to drink more would be a cat fountain. Cats tend to like to drink from running water and cat fountains see to that need, encouraging cats to take in more water. More: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ (Dog food reviews. It's for dogs, but most of the high quality brands also put out excellent cat foods. Four stars is a decent food, five stars is a great food, and six stars is an excellent food.) I guess my question is, why do cat owners seem so far behind in terms of cat nutrition? Another question, does my write up change your view on what you're feeding your cat at all? Really? So you think I should type all that up every single time I want to answer a question? I may be copy pasting but I'm copy pasting /my own words/, it's not like I'm copy pasting something from another website. It's /insanely/ frustrating JC, you're right. It drives me bonkers! Thank you, Ken, it makes me feel better to think we are starting to make a difference :) Brian, I do include some links for raw feeding but I don't know much about it myself so I kind of just left it up to the individual owner to follow the links and educate themselves. I only know that it's an excellent diet option when done correctly :)
