Where can I find a good online medical transcription school?
I currently persuing a career in medical transcription. I have 3 years past experience as a transcriber for a hospital radiology department - that was 10 years ago. Is it necessary for me to attend a certificate program in order for me to get a job doing this from home or will my experience help? Please let me know the names of any good online schools. Thank you.

- A certificate is not required to do medical transcription, however some hirers will require CMT. I would consider applying for radiology transcription now. If you choose to further your education, though, there are probably a hundred different opinions for each course that's available to you. Overall I believe that a course you can personally attend is best. Online or in-person, though, I would suggest taking a very close look at the curriculum for each course you are considering. A course that includes a comprehensive anatomy section will endow you with a basic knowledge of bodily systems and the word roots associated with them. This is essential for accurate transcription and will ensure your continued employment and/or success in branching out on your own as an independent service provider. Lastly, look for a school that has some sort of job placement program and look into its details before signing up. Good luck! MD MedicalTranscription.com Inc.
- PCDI...I took this course and loved it. I did great also. But, due to medical problems haven't been able to get a job. I initially took the course so I could work from home. Yeah right! Alot of physicians do not let you take the work home, due to the fact that someone may get personal info from and about their patients and with the laws today it is a big problem. I worked for a hospital after getting my degree for a short time but it was only per diem, and that wasn't enough. I am still trying to find a transcription job myself to do at home. But .. I did take another online course and did not like that one, So this one is the best. PCDI (Professional Career Development Institute.) good luck
