How does 1 start a career in medical transcription ... such as schooling and a way that I can do this at home?
I am not able to leave my house due to agoraphobia ... so I need a way to make a living from my home. Many people have recommended medical transcription. However, all of the information I find online leads to one scam or another. I would really like any information on this subject. Thank.you

- www.careerstep.com I'm working on the course now and I know two other women who have finished the course and are working for Spheris. Good luck!
- I think it would be a good field too. Try calling some local doctors and hospitals to find someone you can talk with. Try one of your local colleges and talk with them. You can also read this and maybe it will help to.
- I've been a home-based MT for about 4 years. The course I took was also done completely from home. Whatever you do, just make sure you choose a respected school or else you'll have a very difficult time finding a job. I would recommend Andrews, M-Tech or Career Step. Stay away from the schools advertised on TV and in magazines; you'll just be wasting your money. Depending on how dedicated you are, you can usually complete your course in 6 months to 1-1/2 years. You need to have strong grammar and research skills and be detail-oriented. You should really check out www.mtchat.com. There's a ton of information on that site and it's a good place to network. It helped me out a lot when I was first starting out, and I still visit almost daily. Good luck to you!
