Online Medical Classes

I am trying to find a reputable school for medical transcription?

I have heard so many negative things about so many programs and not sure what to believe. Has anyone attended Allied Medical for Medical Transcription and if so would you recommend it?

  1. I would only consider the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college as long as the program is accredited within the industry. I'm not sure about the marketability for MTs and most 'work at home' offers are a scam especially if asking for money upfront. Allied Medical sounds like a private $$ school and one where the student signs up at his or her own risk :) For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'medical transcriptionists' or such.
  2. I've heard of Allied. I can't comment if they are a good choice or not. I definitely don't think they are a scam. A for profit school isn't necessarily a bad thing. I am an MT and I trained with Meditec. I liked it because they have an internship that gets you working right out of the program. It's like guaranteed success. There is not a lot of hand holding during the program as it's all online, but there are forums if you have a question and you can always reach someone for help via Email. You can get through the program in 3-4 months if you work diligently on it. All I can say is that I've been very happy w/ my choice. Plus, it was an affordable choice that ended up in a job : ).
