Online Medical Classes

Why can't I get my medical insurance by doing online courses for college?

Maybe it varies with everyone, to be honest I don't know much about how it works, but why do I have to be a full time IN-CLASS student to get insurance? Why can't just taking online courses give me it too?

  1. You have to ask the insurer why. They have a department that figures out who and at what level to offer insurance based on the risks of the individual. That's why group insurance is usually loser cost than individual. It might be based on the fact that you would be in a situation where you would have a health clinic, thus more likely to get free or very low cost health services and more help when you first get sick. Maybe someone in the industry can better answer this.
  2. I agree, you'll have to talk to the school's insurance contact for an answer. I'd guess part of it is that school insurance programs are tied to the school's student health services system and are heavily restricted, so that they become your primary care physician and most of your visits/labs/etc must be funneled through them. That's how they cut the cost down. In order to access those services you need to be physically on campus (or able to access campus)....and online students can live thousands of miles away. They'd be selling you an insurance policy that you couldn't actually use.
