how can I train him not too....?

chase my cats anymore we have a can with pennies in it that we shake when he's chasing them. but sometimes that doesn't even work. we tried a water bottle. he's decent at the leave it command....but its like he cant hear us when he's focused on the cat. we adopted him from the shelter when he was 6 months old he's been sick, but he's better now, so I'm going to start bringing him back to class (Im an intern at an obedience class) for socialization and all and when I'm at the shelter (that's where class is) I'm considering sticking him in a room with cats...either mean tomcats (worked for a shelter staff) or dog friendly cats but any tips for what else to do at home? I'm considering keeping him on a leash in the house and now that he's well I'm going to be able to get him more exercise. I bought a kitty condo online to put in the laundry room so the cats want to be in there more. he's been making progress...slowly but surely. what are we doing wrong? or will it just take a long time? will it ever get to the point where they can walk by him w/o him chasing them? my other dogs allow them to be free, Meri is a great dane and Bella is a boxer/terrier mix. they kill animals in my backyard... but they leave the house cats alone. thanks guys! and I know I've asked this a few times...but I need more advice and I KNOW he has an extremely high prey drive (bloodhound/apbt mix) and I KNEW that when we adopted him. but my dog Bella had a high prey drive, and we were able to train her to leave them alone....and Meri never really cared about them I've been able to teach them everything I've wanted to...the only other problem behavior-wise is Meri pulls on the leash sometimes...and I am getting an easy walk harness for that (not like a regular harness...it stops the pulling)

  1. You need to get your dog used to cats. Keep the dog around cats and make sure he knows not to hurt them. At first you need to monitor your dog or he might kill your cat like our dog did but after a while he'll be used to the at and will be fine.
