Online Medical Classes

Once I graduate from medical transcription school, can I just go ahead and..?

Start my own company? Or do would it be better to work for a company at first for a few years and then offer "my" transcription services? How do you start your own transcription business? What things are involved in it? I have had so many people say its easier to just stick with working under a transcription company than having clients. Is this true? and WHY? The pay seems so much better if you are doing it yourself! The lady I talked to over the phone at CS (my school) told me that it would be a big headache to start off doing it on my own b/c I would have to bill each of the doctors. What is so bad about that?

  1. You will find lots of information on medical billing and transcription job from this site: http://www.leenk.org/link/medical-transcription
  2. Work under another company, get experience, hands-on work education, etc.... THEN if you still like this line or work, start your own company. If you start your own company, you will need to pay taxes, file state forms, etc.... There is a lot of work invovled in running your own company. I suggest you do more research first before you just jump into something. Yeah, you might make more money, but if you don't have any clients because of lack of experience, you will be making less than if you worked on your own. Think long term and make some goals.
  3. The lady you talked to at CS is not correct! It's not a big deal to bill your clients. I highly recommend getting your own clients.. start w/ one, then build up to more. Good luck to you. A great book on starting your own business in MT is the Home Biz book Med. You can get it at www.meditec.com. It even has sample contracts and stuff in it.
  4. You not only need to work under a company to learn how everything works, but also for the experience. No doctor is going to hire a new grad without experience. It takes years.
