You hear them all the time on commercials and TV shows that take place in O.R.s,. What are some gross medical terms or conditions. They can be names (spleen), terms (psoriasis), substances (bifida regularis) or embarassing conditions (curlings ulcer). The funniest one wins

- anal fissure
- Panis. It's the fat around your hip area. When somebody was doing a hip xray on this woman, the student was told to move her panis out of the way for a better picture...and the student said "but she's a woman!"
- Trichotillomania, where one has the urge to pull their hair out. Genital Rectraction Syndrome (no joke), where people think that their genitals are shrinking and being pulled inside their body. Elephantiasis, where the victim's arms and legs, and other things, are hugely enlarged due to parasitic worms. Yay. Necrotizing Fasciitis, which is a flesh eating bacteria. I dare you to look up pictures of this. Capgras Syndrome, where people think that the people around them who they know are in fact being impersonated by someone. They may not even believe that their own reflection is real. Proctalgia Fugax, a pain in the butt. Literally. But it is a specific pain, not just have a butt that hurts. It feels like a spasm, and may be misconceived to be a need to go to the bathroom. Epidermis. That's the skin on the outside of your body. It's fun to point at people, look horrified, and yell "Dude! Your epidermis is showing!" The weenis is the skin on your elbow. You can probably think of ways to make that sound gross. Sarcoidosis appears a lot on House. On almost every episode, in fact (although it's just one of the possibilities thrown out and shot down). But it isn't very funny. Pneumono ultramicro scopicsili covolcano koniosis (one word), also known as the black lung. You know commercials where they say contact your doctor if you experience an erection lasting more than four hours? That's a priapism. Hippo pota monstro sesqu ippedal iopho bia (again one word), which isn't really a medical condition but refers to the fear of long words. Umm. Yeah. Good going on that one, whoever coined this. Maple Syrup Urine Disease, an inherited disease where one of the symptoms is a sweet smell, possibly like burning sugar, to the urine. But it is very serious and can lead to coma or death. Rickets, a softening of the bones in children. Cocksackie, a virus which can cause hand, foot and mouth disease. A cutaneous horn. That is to say, you grow a horn, made of the same stuff as fingernail, often. Ever heard of Tree-Man? That's what he had. Look this one up. It's an effect, not a cause though. Tree-Man's was caused by HPV, but they can be caused by burns too. And other things. Lumpuckaroo, one way to say "a case of the blahs". Labyrinthitis, which is a balance disorder. If you move, it's kind of like being very motion sick or dizzy. The phrase "the dreaded Lurgy" is a humorous way to refer to any non-serious but easily catchable disease.
