What is a "code black" in an emergency room in a hospital (in medical terms)?
Grey's Anatomy is showing an episode tonight that advertises a code black and I have no idea what it is, and would like to know. Althgough I have never even watched the show, it would be nice to know what it is from a medical professional/expert or someone who at least has an idea what it could be besides a guesser before I watch it. I think it airs tonight at 8 central time. I am in central time. If anyone knows exactly what it is, feel free to respond. Thanks guys!

- A code black is a bomb threat.

- It's usually a bomb, but it can mean severe weather
- It means there is an unauthorized black person in the hospital; "code white" means an unauthorized Caucasian; "code yellow" means an unauthorized Asian, and "code red" means an unathorized Native American. Incidentally, "code blue" means that Smurfs have taken over the hospital.
- It could mean anything. Depends on the facility. Where I worked, it meant severe weather, like a tornado.
- I agree with jesslb, it could mean different things in different facilities. I guess you could ask personnel in your local hospital what it means in their hospital.
- Black = Bomb Threat Brown = Severe Weather Blue = Patient is coding Orange = Patient/Guest is violent etc...
