FREE Online Genealogy correspondence-type classes?

I know that people can find FREE correspondence and training courses for different things such as to learn about computer software or the basics of electronics or any number of other subjects, but is there a self-teaching, learn at your own pace type of thing for Genealogy (something where you don't have to buy books or pay any sort of correspondence fees to take part in)? I'm not looking for something where I can earn an online degree or anything, nor do I want to physically attend training somewhere outside the comfort of my own home, but rather something that I can learn the basics of what I need to know to really learn the ins and outs of genealogy to help me understand it better. Anyone?
