Some more questions about Dances with Wolves??? THnx for the other ppl who answered ;)?
- I am learning about the 7 Arrows and the medicine wheel. How does the film relate to it? - I was discussing the developing relationship of John Dunbar to the Sioux w/ someone online. How and WHY did it change from the beginning of the film until the end? - If you were to write a Character Sketch about John Dunbar, what would you guys say? - How does this film deal w/ the themes of perspective and identity? -ok.. yeah, theres a lot of symbolism in this movie that i'm not really getting: 1. Two socks (hes cute.. i kno lol) 2. exchange of clothing b/w WIND IN HIS HAIR and John Dunbar 3. The American flag blowing in the face of John Dunbar 4. John dancing around the fire by himself (he looked crazy lol) 5. John speaking Sioux when Captured by the white soldiers can one of you explain the symbolism... MUCHOS GRACIAS.. highly appreciated.. if you dont want to help or dont have the time.. i totally understand ;)

- I think that the relationship between John and the Sioux changed when they came to his cabin and he introduced them to the coffee grinder. I think that most of the things you mentioned had symbolism. Two Socks, yeah, I think that was showing how both he and John both grew to be trusting of what was strange and scary to them. The exchange of clothes, I think was a symbol that Wind In His Hair was accepting John in place of his best friend that was killed. The dancing around the fire, I believe is a symbol of an understanding of the freedom and spirituality of the Sioux. And the speaking Sioux was defiance of the whites and his showing them that he was turning against them to stand as a Sioux. But I dont think that the flag blowing in his face meant anything.
- Lots of Questions! I can help with some. John and the natives became friends. Through spending time together they got to know each other and valued each other's company. John is a very sensitive person. He has high moral standards. He wants to be a good person. eg. kindness to animals and natives. His perspective changed once he was away from the white people ways... he became native-like in his thoughts... l. John is Two Socks....lonely, left behind, eventually turned on by white people 2. Exchange of clothing....friends 3. American Flag in face...foreshadowing of what was to come....USA army turning against John 4. John finding his inner native...happiness...his real self...dancing around the fire. 5. John turning his back on the US Army, just as they did him, that was why he spoke Sioux. Hope I helped.
