Should Canadians and British be able to defend their Healthcare Systems when attacked by the US Far Right?
I am pretty much against any foreign involvement in our domestic affairs. However, the Far Right has used systems abroad where the government has a place in Health Care in order to ridicule those systems. Of course, it is mostly lies. The vast majority of the people in those countries would not change them. My question is: if the Far Right can use those systems to trash them, why can't the British and Canadians respond to these lies simply for the purpose of correction? Not making suggestions on how to conduct our system, but a response to the attack on theirs?

- I for one, see no reason to attack Canadians and British. If it works for them and they are happy, good. As for me, I prefer personal responsibility and am willing to pay for it. A welfare state does not suit us. Peace.
- Do what you want but when you need a doctor don't come here, get in line where your at and wait.
- These people tend to even reject facts. It's impossible for them to accept a fact. Even when told by a man regarded as the Einstein of our time. None of the people here who are forever commenting about how terrible universal healthcare is in Britain have ever lived here. I've never once commented about Americans healthcare system. If they don't want universal healthcare, thats fine, it's their problem and shouldn't be of anyone elses concern (who isn't American) but Im sick to death of these simpletons spreading lies and misleading information.
- They have been repsonding a lot lately, and rightly so. Even Drudge had a link to a British newspaper defending their care against ours today. Granted, he seemed surprised, but he probably didn't read it. Try reading it and see what you think.
- I wasn't aware that anyone was stopping them from doing so. Most of the Canadians and Brits one finds on here are not particularly shy about expressing themselves. Further, the honest Canadians will admit that excessive waiting periods are a BIG problem.
- How dare they criticize. Don't they realize that everyone in their country hates their health system? OK, just because everyone they know, people who actually live there, are happy with it, is no reason to pollute our political system with facts.
- Your talking about republicans. They talk but don't hear. And if they do hear they don't want to listen. It's a losing battle.
- That's so cute that you actually think we care about your opinion.
- Why are canadians complaining about the public health-care system compared to the private system in Canada? Why is the private health-care system in Canada's "two tier" system growing at such a rapid rate compared to the public system? Why are canadians complaining about their 35% tax rate taken out to fund the public system when that money would be more efficiently spent on their own personal plans for health-care? Seems the "right" has a better plan.
- The far right and even the moderate right would never allow it for one thing This is a group that would have no problem trying to start a war with any nation that dared speak the truth --- they would pull out the bible and then spew lies You simply can not win an argument with a 2 yr old who wants chips for dinner or who decided he hates vegetables he hasn't tried yet You can not win a debate with the far or moderate right or the moderate or extreme left in the US for the very same reasons Fox news simply can not cover something in a fair manner and the US public is too brain washed to listen to it anyway Inviting Canadians or others to participate should never be accepted because it is known from the outset ---- the 2 yr old will scream and the news will only cover said 2 yr old
- Hell yes , Grow some balls and tell those Righties
- I know the British government or the NHS is correcting things that are clearly lies (like you don't get treatment for heart disease if you're sixty or over as you're basically dead). But they are doing it in a very muted fashion. I was furious about the stuff said about Stephen Hawking and similar comments. I think the NHS is an excellent system, it has its faults but basically saying that we treat everyone, their ability to pay is not an issue should be the starting point of any healthcare system.
- Why not, they have many advantages over our system. Is theirs perfect ? No. What is. But when changes are necessary, they make them and in due time.
- I am not sure why Americans should care about our system, other than as a diversion to their own health care debate, which does not involve any proposals for the creation of a system similar to the British NHS. We are not looking to change our system and there is a general political consensus between the major political parties and population at large when it comes to Universal Health Care, and the NHS already has private companies providing treatment within it, whilst the NHS University Teaching Hospitals are amongst the best in the world and are very well equipped. I could go on, however these three articles sum up my feelings precisely. http://www.politics.co.uk/analysis/health/comment-i-ll-never-understand-americans-$1318652.htm http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23732389-details/why-americas-medical-industry-hates-the-nhs/article.do http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/4cecb8e4-88d9-11de-b50f-00144feabdc0.html
- HAHA no one can defend the British and Canadian deathcare systems. It is a clear failure so much thousands of Canadians and British "subjects" come to the US for basic treatment or else wait months to years and die. The fact that my Canadian relatives tend to die in there 50s to 60s while my American family tend to live into there 70s to 90s says a lot.
- Yes. The right in the USA spread lies about the NHS, some of which are to put it simply quite stupid, one being that Professor Hawkings would be dead if he relied on the NHS for healthcare. Forgetting that he does!
- Nahh, the Americans can use our NHS as a scapegoat all they like. British & Canadian life expectancy is higher than American, so slander away American media 'cos I'll live longer than you! :-)
- Ridicules! Just because you feel threatened by having flaws in your model system pointed out and used as a reason why we shouldn't adopt a similar plan is not attacking you. If you want to correct, mis-statements and such, do so respectfully,or otherwise stay out of our affairs. You're claiming you want to do the very thing you say you're against to us, "I am pretty much against any foreign involvement in our domestic affairs." Just because you have trashy system, doesn't mean you can inflences ours that way too.
- I see no reason why we should take any notice of the mutterings of these simpletons ! After all, we kow that our healthcare is far superior !
