Online Medical Classes

I would really like some advice on this?

so monday, tuesday and thursday I help teach obedience classes at my local shelter, its more of an internship really I work at the shelter for other stuff monday through friday a few weeks ago, I called one of my co-workers (actually the person I'm working under) while I was drunk. all I did was say HI. so I was suspended from the shelter for a week when I came back she said if I proved myself I would be able to have all of her information from animal behavior college. (basically I would be doing the class for free) well, she told me today that the staff at the shelter are still 'keeping an eye on me' and this is a crap-load of betrayal and hurt basically I had trusted them and they stabbed me in the back, a few times so when she told me I got really bummed out again. I am currently in a program where a government program pays me to work there. I'm thinking that once this program is over, I'll be done there. just help with obedience stuff but now I'm not sure I was planning on doing vet tech college online, then going to the Tom Rose school for dog training what do you think? are there any other options besides waiting forever to save up the money to do tom rose? can you think of any other ways I can gain knowledge for dog training? I love doing that, but I also want to get in to vet tech or even going to be vet Tmw- I was not drinking at work, and never dealt with any animals at that time I was at a party, and called to talk to her.

  1. first thing you need to do is STOP DRINKING. i for one would not want you to train one of my dogs knowing you could be drinking while my dogs are in your care. for alot of people including myself think of their dogs as their babies, and i would not leave my babies with anyone who drinks. you ask so heres my opinion.sorry if you dont like it
  2. I don't think the Animal Behavior College is so great. Having spoken to some of the graduates and having attending classes taught by another (the guy barely knew anything and had no control over the class), I wouldn't recommend it. Tom Rose uses some very harsh methods you may not want to learn. Have you seen any of his DVDs? His methods work all right but you might find yourself up on cruelty charges if you used them in some areas. Karen Pryor has a new clicker training academy you can find online. I am in favor of using the softer, less forceful methods because they are better accepted by pet dog owners as well as being more kind to the dogs. It is the pet owners who will be attending the bulk of your classes, not the obedience competitors. I have seen far too many pet owners completely turned off to the idea of dog training the moment they had to put choke chains on their dogs' necks. If you can get to San Francisco, Jean Donaldson teaches a wonderful trainers course at the San Francisco SPCA Adoption Center. I don't remember the cost but I think it was 4 or 5 thousand dollars and very complete. This is one of the best trainers courses in existence. A lot of trainers simply apprentice under other trainers. This is good as long as you apprentice under someone who is top notch and you can get by with no income from training for a while. I think your idea to go to Vet Tech college is a good one. See if you can find a vet who will let you work part time (or more) while you complete your training. It would be helpful to actually DO some of the things covered in your online studies, and you could earn some money, too.
  3. Cassie, you need to get your personal problems under control before you jump into training dogs. Take some time, you are young and everything that you want to do will be there in a few years when you are better equipped to handle them. Training dogs is very time consuming and very stressful and you need to be totally focused on that.
