Online Medical Classes

Is there anything I can do to help prepare me for medical transcription classes online?

I will be starting Medical Transcription school this summer. I was wonder if I could get some ideas on what I could brush up on or what I could do research on before I actually start my schooling. I just want to be prepared for what I have coming at me. Any websites, books, or software that will help me in the long run? I would like to pretty much start schooling myself before I start. Have any ideas?

  1. The medical world holds a variety of different professions from the obvious nurse and doctor professions to adminstrative professions. My sister wanted to work in this field, but she wasn't certain perfectly what she wanted to do. She discovered the resource in the resource box below, it has lots of tips, and it aided her to settle what she wanted to do. They have guidance with other jobs too.
  2. How about asking the program director about the required books. I'm just guessing that one of the required texts may be 'Medical Terminology' which is basically learning vocabulary words such as root words, prefixes and suffixes. For possible consumer reviews of related textbooks and other reads: http://www.amazon.com and can type into search. Please beware of those online, for-profit schools (may have 'bricks and mortar' buildings and may be 'accredited') such as penn foster, capella, stratford career, kaplan, ashworth, university of phoenix, career step, walden, argosy, ITT tech, devry, sanford brown, everest, US career, remington and others as they are merely out to 'make a profit' (and course credits may Not transfer): http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search. Please also forgo those private $$ tech schools and instead opt for the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college as long as the program is accredited within the industry. For US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ General career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search.
  3. As I know, this site has top listing of such college courses online - schools.iblogger.org
