How can I convince my parents into letting me get a dog?
First off, I just want to thank anyone who gives an answer for this question. Your help is greatly appreciated. My close friend's aunt has a dachshund (weiner dog) puppy that she would like to find a good home for. She would love to keep him, but she has 4 other dachshunds already, and she says she already has too many dogs as it is, but she will keep him if she cannot find him a home. This puppy is from one of her dog's litters, a family down the street bought him, but the parents there, currently are having some money issues, and asked her if she could take him back, because they could not afford to take care of him any longer. He is 4 months old, has had all of his shots, is half way house broken, gets along with other animals and people. He is also very cute. I have a job, I have money saved up for current expenses, I have a cage for crate training. I'm basically a homebody (lol), so I will be bale to take care of him 24/7. The puppy's current owner does not want to sell him, she said she will give free, if it is to a good home. She wants to see where he will be living and whatnot, and make sure he will not be sold or anything. I am 17 by the way, I do plan to go to college, but here, you do not have to live on campus to go to college, so I was planning at living at home for a while till I got some more money earned and got out of college. We have a Chihuahua at the moment. My dad has been looking at dogs online to have in the house, and my mom always talks about getting a playmate for the chihuahua. But when I told them about it, they just say "NO! We are not getting another dog." or "You do not need a dog." or "We don't need another dog." But then they talk about getting a dog. Weird, I know. But, the major question is....how do I convince my parents that I can have him? Again, thakn you to anyone who answers. :) They do not expect me to take the Chi. The chi is my mom's dog. When I am out fo college, I plan to take the dachshund with me. My parents actually do like that breed by the way, my sister has one and they love it. I think they are just agaisnt having a puppy. I don't know.. Thanks you for answers :)

- When your PARENTS are ready for another dog they will get another dog. Just because they are looking does not mean they are ready for another dog. Has it ever entered your mind they may not like dachshunds? Cute as they may be not everyone likes them. hell they may not have even made up their minds completely about having another dog. You're 17 start acting like it and not like a 7 year old. No means no.
- If you know anyone who has a dog ask to borrow it and show how responsible you are. Then go buy a puppy!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST OF WISHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- it sounds like your well prepared for a dog and its a good dog. theres no reason for your parents to say no if they want one....
- That's great that your friend's aunt cares that much about the dog to make sure it ends up in good hands (though i'm wondering how she ended up wtih a 4month old puppy they decided they can't have....Guess her dogs aren't fixed?). Anyways..as far as convincing your parents, what they say goes, just they way it is until you have your own place . Maybe they have a different kind of dog in mind when they talk about getting another dog or maybe they intend to once the chi's no longer around. They may think that once you finish college and move out, you'll take the chihuahua? If so, would you take the dachsund too? Yes, you're going to college at home, but that's only four years. What will happen to the dog after those four years? The dog will only be 4 years old then....
- I love dogs so much and I wish I could adopt them all, but I currently have only one little dog, that looks like a dachshund. I'm 19 and I remember myself begging my parents to get me a dog, but they didn't allow me to have one until I was 16. I think the key is to show them that you are responsible to take good care of a puppy, to clean after it and train it so that it won't make a mess, especially if there is another dog around! You should fight for it and insist, you are old enough to make your parents change their minds, but even if they don't try bringing the dog home and they may be seduced by its cuteness, you never know! Good luck! I hope that the puppy will soon find its place in your family ;)
