how can i train my dog?

i have a german shepard mixed with a chow and kinda of a laborder well he is almost a year old and all he knows is to give a hand shake, sit,and not to pull on the leesh how do i train him i used some really good techinques but it doesnt work i searched online and everywhere please help me please do not suggest getting a trainer or books or cds because i cant afford it well actually i have one cd that doesnt help much when i tried please help give me some tips, you can refer to FREE websites or videos if you like though how did u train ur dog i need BIG HELP sorry thanks :)

1. Look up some of Zak George's training videos. They're pretty good, and they're in a step-by-step process that's easy to follow. They've helped me a lot, and I taught my dog a lot of tricks.
2. Check out the public library. You can borrow books and videos for free.
3. it depends what trick you wanna teach him if you would like to teach him to "down" or lie down for my dogs i would put them into the sit position then hold his back side down lightly so he wont come up then put the treat on the ground and slowly pull the treat away from ur dog and hopefully he will begin to go into the down position hope his helps :)
4. Google "how to train dogs" You will find tons of information.
5. Have you gone to your local library for books and vids?
6. positive behavior reinforcement.
