Online Medical Classes

Can i take online classes to be an ultrasound tech?

i live in massachusetts and i am going to go to middlesex community college and i already have a baby. i think it would be easier for me since the baby will be almost one when i start school. Is it possible for me to take my courses online to get my Diagnostic Medical Sonography Associate Degree?

  1. No, that won't work for this type of degree. You could potentially take the pre-requisite courses online (before you get into the program). But none of the classes for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program will be offered online. It's a hands-on field and requires that you practice in the lab to learn scanning skills, how to work the equipment, and the protocols. Sonography is the most operator-dependent modality in imaging, so you definitely cannot learn that online. It takes hands-on practice. And by the way, these programs are notorious for being competitive, stressful, and time-consuming. Once you start the program it becomes like a full-time job. So make sure you have support from family/friends that will help you with baby-sitting even when you just need some quiet time to study. It will be difficult, but if you are committed and determined, you can do it. :) Make sure you find an accredited program: http://www.caahep.org/Find-An-Accredited-Program/ Good luck :)
