What healthcare job takes the least amount of schooling?

I know the quick ones don't make a lot of money, but I'm tired of the retail field! I'm going to start online classes to work toward a BS in Medical Imaging Technology but I still need to work while I do that schooling. I also know it will be helpful to get some patient care experience. As far as I can tell, Phlebotomy looks like the fastest with a 12wk course. All suggestions are appreciated :)

Nurses assistant. I believe it doesn't take long to get a certificate in that.
A medical vocation is always worth considering, from nurses and doctors right down to hospital cleaning crews. The resource in the box below has some fantastic instruction on joining this noble line of work. My brother got some fantastic help from there in advance of landing a vocation as a medical admin assistant.
Cna (certified nursing assistant) has an accelerated program of 3week in certain schools. But i recommend that you try an LPN program that last 1year in in Washington DC an VA area. An LPN can make between $18 to $25/h or more. Nursing has more shift than other like Medical assistant for example were it is usally a 9 to 5 or 6. Good luck

I work as a health care recruiter and just attended a job fair last week where there were a ton of newly-trained medical workers (including imaging) that couldn't find jobs. Make sure there is demand in your area for whatever you want to do and that the pay for someone without experience is more than you are making in retail. I'd say things like LPN, Physical Therapy Assistant or respiratory therapy are good bets for non-4-year degree options. If you decide to do phlebotomy, I hope you like blood!
Yeah Phlebotomy is fast and it's something I'll be looking into soon. I'm finishing up my EMT-Basic course this trimester (two trimesters total) and I'll be certified to provide emergency care on an ambulance. Not in it for the money but you learn a lot of skills and fast.
