medical terms in books written one century back?

If you come across a medical term such as "epilepsy" in a book that was written one hundred years ago, do you think the term has the same present-day meaning?

Public Comments

  1. Epilepsy could have meant pretty much any neorological condition. Not necasserily epilepsy.
  2. yes- i think hypocrates first discovered epliepsy and so i guess it was called that ever since
  3. If it was a medical term then and is still a medical term now, I'd expect it to have the same meaning, or very close. Possibly it could also be describing things which we now know are distinct from epilepsy but have similar symptoms. But there will be lots of medical terms which are no longer used.
  4. Not always , if you see Consumption as a disease it is what we call T.B today ( Tuberculosis) .
