As a medical assistant what security procedures do you follow for drugs kept in the office?
This question is in reference to my online Medical Office Procedures course.
Public Comments
- 1. Lock and key - the basic procedure. 2. Log every transaction - be it doctor or a nurse who asks for it. Document everything. If a wrong medication is dispensed by someone, the document is the way to track it. 3. Treat it with same care and control as you would do your cash register. 4. Never leave the place without a proper authoritative replacement. 5. If you take a medicine from one place, replace it in the SAME place so that no mistake could occur. You do not want to be that person who makes a mistake. 6. Dispense only with proper prescription. If in doubt, call. 7. At the end of your shift, balance the books. What went out plus what is left equals what it was at the beginning of the day.
