  1. I think they have become more accepted as more people are doing it.Its convenient and wonderful for single parents etc.good luck
  2. It is not a difficult career to learn. Most programs teach a combination of office and clinical procedures because you need to be able to do the basics. Taking a patients blood pressure and weighing them, learning medical terminology and basic office procedures. I suggest a community college for your education because employers favor some schools/colleges over others. You might ask people working in the industry which programs are favorable.
  3. Please don't get training at those 'online schools' such as penn foster or stratford career institute as employers find community colleges and county vo-tech school more reputable. And please save your money and not enroll in one of those private schools as they should be no better than the county vo-tech or community college especially since there are not supposed to be too many jobs for the medical assistant (or biller or coder). One may need to look for work with a different job title such as 'medical receptionist' or 'medical records clerk' (may now be called 'health information' instead).
  4. I've been in the medical field for 33 years and there are many classes for being a medical assistant in adult education and probably online. It would be a better idea to be around other people who are going to the same classes, just to get the feel for what you'll be doing. It's not hard to learn and it can be very interesting. Actually, medical assistants get to do a lot of things the nurses used to do.like taking blood pressures, weighing patients, etc. You should be a good people person and if you are,go for it and good luck with a new career.
  5. i would recommned you to better register in a local institue/college. It is not hard at all. They show you the basics for example: some medical terminology, phlebotomy, vital sings. The basics. Of course if you find it hard to learn this things it will be hard, but its not just try to focus and you will satisfactory complete the course with no problem at all. good luck!
