Online Medical Classes

Medical Office Assistance?

I recently went to college and was certified to work in Medical/Business Offices. I'm primarily interested in working the front desk/office for a medical facility. Problem is, there doesn't seem to be a large number of job listings available online for this occupation/medical offices don't seem to publically advertise when they are hiring for such positions. So my question is: What is the best way to go about looking for employment opportunities for this position?

  1. Get out your local yellow pages, find them. Go in person and ask if you can apply for a job and how long they keep an application on file.
  2. I don't know where you live, but here in the Kentucky/Ohio area there are lots of listings for Medical Office assistants. I've found some job openings also going directly to the hospitals' websites and clicking under Careers or Jobs or Work with us. Sometimes they don't have a direct link on the homepage, but you can find it under Contact Us or About Us. You could also try asking in your college for some job recommendations.Good Luck!
  3. you need to check out PureMedicalJobs.com and call the employer to possibly follow up good luck
  4. It really depends on your location. While the Bureau of Labor Statistics report a growing job market for medical office and medical assistant positions in the US, certain areas, especially some of the larger cities are actually over-producing graduates from the programs. In the city where I live, there are 25 medical assistant and medical office programs each offering both day and evening classes. They graduate close to 3,000 people each year. Some of those are hired by the offices where they rotate for training in school. My office hired less than one of every 8, when we needed a replacement. The local advertised openings average 9-12 per month or approximately 60 per year. In all likelihood over 50% of the graduates have trouble finding a position. When you add the fact that in the US, in none of the 50 states or territories, is there a requirement that a medical office hire a medical assistant that is certified or has been through any formal training at all. In many of the smaller offices, I have found that family and friends of family are often trained to perform the required tasks by the office, and a trained medical assistant is hired on occasion when needed. Your best chance is to contact the larger health care systems, which have a large number of clinics in your area. They usually have a higher number of office staff, and therefore a higher number of job openings at any given time. Good Luck!
  5. Apply at local hospitals even if they're not hiring but that's highly unlikely. I fell into this job because a friend needed me to work in the admitting office within the billing department. Then this job lead me to opportunities to work as a ward clerk and in the nursing float pool as a secretary. like the answerer above look in the yellow pages and apply in doctor's offices, rehab centers, and walk in clinics.
