Online Medical Classes

How does transferring college credits work?

I am going to college online for Medical Office Management but when my husband comes home from Iraq and im settled I want to go for my Associates in Nursing. I am taking Medical Law and ethics, Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology I&II, and Disease of the Human Body, would I be able to transfer those credits to a on campus nursing program? Wow Ling 1914 That is excatly what I plan on doing after my Nursing degree, maby you could give me a little more info on what it takes to achieve those degrees.

  1. for anatomy and physiology am 100% sure it will transfer. for the rest am 90% sure.
  2. Some of them maybe, but not all. I highly doubt that anatomy and physiology would transfer because you wouldn't have the same lab experience as someone who went to an on-campus university. i imagine that law and terminology would transfer, but it's entirely up to the university that you're transfering to and you should direct your questions to them.
  3. It can depend on the course of study you choose to pursue or the individual college. If you know which college you plan to attend for your associates, contact the school and speak with a guidance counselor. Make sure that the online school you attend is accredited. Credits from unaccredited schools are less likely to transfer. My ex-daughter in law had to take Anatomy and physiology 3 times by transferring to different colleges--and all of the schools were accredited. Her case was very unique, but still better to check in advance.
  4. My experience is that private universities will honor all (or almost all) transfer credits. Public universities (state colleges/universities--i.e. ASU, WSU, etc.) are very picky; some will even make you re-take the same course with the same text book. I have found it is more about generating revenue for the college--the less credits they allow to transfer the more you have to take from them. I graduated from private colleges for my Bachelor's and Master's degrees and saved a lot of time and got a better education that I could have through a public college. Higher education is well worth it! Explore your options and be wise! My thanks to you and your husband for his service to our country!
