Credibility of Online Career Diplomas?

I chose an online career program (for medical office assistant - clerical focus) due to disability from my previous occupation. I have worked hard on this program, but it lacks clinical experience or an externship. Are these online career schools credible and worth the time? Will it help my chances to get a job assuming I will be physically able eventually? Serious answers only, please.

1. In the USA, online career schools that have been accredited by a accreditation agency that is accepted by the US Dept of Eduation are consider credible. The particular program should also be accredited.
