Edwards wants mandatory checkups with universal healthcare?

Anyone get that? Edwards wants to make it the law that if government pays for your healthcare (with your money, of course) that government can demand you go to visits for preventative medicine to keep the costs down. Do you understand that whenever government offers to take over anything (paid for with your money), they insist on controlling that aspect of your lives? If this isn't communism/socialism, then what is?

  1. You pretty much have the answer here. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Peace and God Bless.
  2. Don't be silly will you please. It's not "socialism". If you don't go for checkups, and you choose instead to die of prostate cancer, fine....you just get kicked out of the healthcare system if you don't follow the mandatory drill, and then you have to pay your own way and do whatever you want with your life. It couldn't be more democratic. It's no more socialist than meeting the free shuttle bus. If you don't want to ride with the crowd, hitch a ride some other way--drive your Mercedes. Walk. Don't go at all. So stop ranting. You aren't really making any sense here. Calm down.
  3. You've nailed it exactly. Edwards and the rest of the contemporary American Left are neo-socialist/communist, and they are on a hell-bent drive to press this takeover of the US. I believe Edwards, who isn't going anywhere in '08, made these remarks as a "trial balloon," to see if Americans are smart enough to catch on. Americans will be paying attention, because you don't mess with people's health care. Hillary got shot down in '95 with the same type of plan, and the Dems will be slammed down once again.
  4. Breath in, breath out. Better, okay. Now go and have a hot glass of milk and a nap.
  5. What do you have to hide?
  6. You are right! As scary a thought as that, I am equally afraid of some of the answers you are getting. Unfortunately, these people who just dont get it are probably voters.
  7. You're right, If people can't realize these assholes in government want total control over you, just look at the humiliation one goes through at airports, because of their phony "terrorism" they invented.
  8. Of course Edwards wants to control every facet of American life if elected. He's already come out & said Americans should sacrifice their suvs for 'the good of the environment'. He lost points then though with his answer to whether or not he'd be willing to do the same & turned it into making no apologizes for what's he's 'earmed'. Seriously scary - hope he sinks even lower in the standings quickly.
  9. you're exactly right. Whenever government does something for you it TAKES OVER that part of your life. I for one don't need or want a nanny. One of the things that concerns me about government health care is that as you get older I have a hard time believing they wouldn't do a 'cost benefit analysis' when you went to the doctor to determine just what health care you get. Lets see Mr. taxpayer....It says here you've pretty much outlived your usefulness and won't be paying much in the way of taxes so we've decided we'll just make you 'comfortable' and bide our time. -or- Oh that sky diving, mountain climbing, scuba, water skiing, mx racing, smoking, drinking, etc. are behaviors that the tax payers just can't be expected to underwrite so I'm afraid we're going to have to prohibit those kinds of risky activity. Trust me you don't want the government running your health care. They are too involved now. When I was a kid (about the time the government began sticking it's nose into our health care business) doctors still made house calls. Do you know of a doctor that does that anymore? The government should stop and read article 1 section 8 of the constitution. That is where their list of jobs is located. I'm certain health care is not on the list. The government seems to think that it can do anything not expressly prohibited in the constitution. In fact the opposite is true. It's not supposed to do ANYTHING not specifically delineated.
  10. 301 million office visits a year. That is a lot of money. With this system, even if they found anything it would be years to get anything scheduled to be fixed. The reason the HMO's pulled out of Florida was because the seniors were in the doctors office everyday. They were going broke. My brother in law (the doctor) told me if I want to stay healthy, its best to avoid doctors. I listen to the expert,
  11. He said if you chose the healthcare, it's not mandatory that you take it. One minor detail you've left out. Preventative care is cheaper than treating someone who is gravely ill. Delta dental pays 90% of my dental care if I go twice a year and onl 70% if I don't go regularly. Are they socialist? As a Republican it's mind boggling to me that you don't understand that it would save a tremendous amount of money and cost much less than our current system. It would also save many lives, how evil! You can live your life anyway you want and chose not to have this healthcare.
  12. The libs are tooooo dumb to understand that~
  13. You give the average American too much credit. Do you REALLY think that all parents willingly take their kids to get check ups? The Republican philosophy assumes that everyone is a self-starter. Nice dream, but not a reality. Until that dream becomes a reality (and it won't) there will always be people to bail out. At the end of the day, all kids should get check-ups, no matter what kind of parents they have.
  14. Socialized or "Single Payer" programs are nothing more than a government run HMO - the only way to control costs is to manage access - this is accompished by delaying medically necessary treatments. Read on: In 2006 Britain's Department of Health reported that at any given time, nearly 900,000 Britons are waiting for admission to National Health Service hospitals, and shortages force the cancellation of more than 50,000 operations each year. In Sweden, the wait for heart surgery can be as long as 25 weeks, and the average wait for hip replacement surgery is more than a year. Canada is not immune to the issues either - Brian Day, a Vancouver orthopedic surgeon, was elected president of the Canadian Medical Association last month on a PLATFORM of bringing some types of private medicine and business practices to Canada's socialized medicine. so even Canada is looking toward private insurance as a solution to their issues. There is a real problem with the uninsured in America, and as a Health Insurance Broker, I talk to my clients about how they as employers, myself as a broker and the health insurance carriers have a responsibility to get these people insured through innovative group and individual products. We have a large pool of healthy Americans who are not insured, we need them to step up and become part of the solution. In addition, we Americans need to take responsibility for our own health. A significant portion of medical claims are directly related to the American lifestyle (we as Americans have the resources to become fat and lazy). I feel that through employer sponsored wellness, consumerism and disease management programs we can continue down the road of a "healthy America". Result: a reduction of the large claims that have our healthcare spending spiraling out of control.
