Online Medical Classes

Is anything else in Canada free besides healthcare?

Like education or something? What if a person who lives in the US were to take online courses @ the University of Toronto? Would that person have to pay international tuition & fees? There's a Spanish translation program that I think I might do there. Not sure.

  1. No education is not free for university, so you would have to pay. So I'm pretty sure that's true even for online courses if you're from the US.
  2. Post-secondary education in Canada is subsidized, like state colleges/universities are in the states. For example, a state school has in-state and out of state tuition. Universities in Canada have the same subsidized tuition rate for everyone who is a resident of Canada, and then a separate rate for international students which is without the subsidy and can be substantially more. Some individual provinces in the past have funded universities to provide free post-secondary education for their citizens but I'm not aware of any such program in place now other than ones for natives. Other countries which do have free tuition limit it to their citizens and not the whole world, i.e. Ireland.
  3. HEALTH CARE IS NOT FREE the higher taxes americans talk about that we pay go into it ...and the rest is subsidized!!! If your american and not a citizen of CANADA you are not entitled to the benefits these taxes bring ! University is not free for canadians either and neither would it be free for an american ...yes you do have to pay for tuition in canada ....as the canadian tax payer would not be expected to cover your fees
  4. Yes, you would have to pay for tuition. Just like if you were to visit Canada and did not have status here, you would have to pay for your healthcare as it is only funded for residents as we fund it through our taxes. For Canadians, the tuition is partly subsidized by the government, but for international students there is no subsidy so the tuition fees are substantially higher. I'm not sure the cost for your online program, but for example if you were to actually come and study as an International student, you would not be covered by our healthcare program and you would have to pay a fee to have health coverage while in Canada. The fees at U of T for this are: In addition to the academic fee, International Students must pay for the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP); the cost for twelve months coverage is approximately $684 for a single student, $1,680 for a family of two, and $1,992 for a family of three or more..
